Sony remote (and replacement) not working

The remote for my Sony 49” 2019 LED TV doesn’t function. (RMF TX310E) I bought a replacement and that doesn’t work either. No response from any of buttons, unable to switch from Sky Q hdmi to TV. Firestick etc.

I’ve done soft reset and TV comes back on but unable to use remote.

Tried multiple new batteries.

Hi @SteveStacey

The starting point for any request for help is the full model number of your TV. It will start with KD or XR. Unless something is blocking the IR receiver on the TV it sounds like you may have a physical problem which can only be diagnosed by Sony themselves. I would try Sony Support. You will need your TV's serial number, receipt etc.

As a quick check to see if the remote is trying to send a signal, point the remote into a mobile phone camera, you should be able to see the signal.

There are also plenty of Sony Remote Apps available for IOS and Android.

It’s a KD49XF9005. Never use the TV for YouView, apps, as only ever watch Sky Q (hdmi 2) and Firestick (hdmi 1) Also have Sonos Arc connected via E arc,

Had this setup for a few years without problem. A few weeks ago, realised original remote was malfunctioning. (Wanted to use Firestick) Checked battery compartment and could see batteries had discharged to connectors. Cleaned up, replaced batteries and it was good for a few weeks b4 failing again.

Replaced batteries again and eventually ordered replacement remote on EBay.

It’s a funny one. Almost like the original remote is crocked and it won’t let me connect the new one. Problem is I can’t get into TV to check settings, pair new remote.

When I did the soft TV reset, it immediately went back to Sky mode.

V bizarre.

Any signal showing with the mobile phone camera? Perhaps you have got a “eBay” remote.

Sorry, I missed bit about pointing remote at phone camera. How do I do that exactly? In your image, camera screen looks dark.

Hi @SteveStacey Simply point your remote towards your camera lens and press a button. That large black thing is the remote end that normally points towards the TV. The light showing is the infra red signal that becomes visible on a mobile camera. My IR remote is a different shape to yours (RMT-TX440E).

Thanks. I’m not normally a technophobe but struggling with this. Am I meant to be pointing remote at the lenses on rear of iPhone 11 camera? If so, can’t see any signal being projected. However, difficult to know if I’ve aligned it correctly.

Hi @SteveStacey Yes, using the lens on the back of your iPhone, make sure that it is the end of the remote that normally points towards the TV and far enough away to show the entire end. If you don't see a light (IR) when you press a button, that means the remote is definitely not working (dud). No need to take an image, I did to show you what an IR signal looks like (iPhone 15 Pro rear camera, not the one that you use for selfies!).

No wind up mate. I don’t think the remotes (either of them) are sending a signal.

I’ve also tried the Sony remote app, but this requires access to remote to set it up. You couldn’t make it up.

So that no part of the end of the remote that your phone camera is looking into is outside the frame of the picture.

Try again, and this time take a snapshot of the end of the remote when you are pressing a button on it (and holding it down) and post it here so we can check it for you,

Yes, purple signal is visible now.

As stated in previous post, all good to go.

God knows why remote was glitching earlier.

I have the same issue with the same model tv but what I done to get around the problem was do a full reboot ie remove plug for 30 secs remove all HDMI cables before you plug the tv in connect a keyboard via a usb connector on the side of the tv again before you connect the tv (I used a mac keyboard) once all the bells and whistles stop you will get the home setup screen with select the country then you can use the keyboard as your navigation tool once done you download a free remote control app you then can use the free app as a remote but you will get adds unless you buy a premium version. The issue is more than likely to be a IR sensor part number 1-984-332-11 now comes the problem I have not been able to source one yet and I have been trying for about 3 weeks. hope this helps Oh by the way Sony have been as useful as a chocolate fireguard they just want to sell you a new tv.

How did you sort it I got same model of TV and remote off Amazon I can't get it to work only when in Bluetooth the mic button works confusing
