What connection mode you are trying (Bluetooth, WiFi-direct, etc)?

What other devices are your trying to connect to?

The device shares features with the nearby devices, but such a feature is limited. For example, a computer with windows 10 is not even a la. If I understood well, you're talking about the "Nearby" functionality introduced by Google. This feature does not require that all the devices are Sony-made or with Android 8.0 installed. For example, you can use the Nearby feature to transfer the content and accounts of your old android device (with NFC) to a new one.

Now again, what are the connection type and devices involved in your question?

And for the update question: Xperia L1 was not among the official list of devices announced by Sony that will receive the Oreo update. Check more info here.

how do I update to 5.2 or higher, have tried updateding through AOL App with no luck

I had an email from AOL saying I must update my device which is Xperia L1 to 5.2 to be able to use the AOL App, have tried, no luck, I'm not very technically minded

If you are trying to update the app just open the PlayStore > type AOL > update the app

your phone is running on Android 7.0 right?

settings > system > about phone > android version

Yes it is 7.0, I did try updating through AOL App ,followed all steps, clicked the box for auto updates but still can't log on, I get an error page with no error number each time I try

google android soon specifies the feature can be used in 8.0 oreo version settings. I do not think this phone will be upgraded.
