topic Network unlocking in L Series

Hello there,

I bought a pay and go refurbished Xperia L1 from O2 and would like to unlock it. O2 have a policy of not unlocking pay and go phones for the first year.

I tried to buy a code from a reputable webite however they issued me a refund as "they didn't have an available lock code". I took the phone to a high street retailer and explained the issue, he said he doesn't usually have any problems.

The first and second code he's issued hasn't worked. I'm now left with only two retries (only had 5 to begin with). The retailer requested that I bring the phone in to him. I'm abit reluctant to have him try any more codes that won't work, leaving me with zero attempts.

Does anyone with abit more knowledge than me know:

Why are the codes rejecting?

Is it usually a long/complicated/expensive procedure to have a Sony engineer reset the counter to 5?

Is there a way to unlock the phone without use of codes?

Many thanks
