Could you please elaborate your question a bit? For example, Are you able to see which app the ads ar sent from and for how long have you been experiencing unwanted ads? Have you been able to reboot your phone in safe mode in order to see if the ads are produced by a downloaded app?

Please do elaborate as much as you can and I will do my best to assist you!

Have you tried clearing data for the app that is sending the ads? This will reset all settings for the app in question which might do the trick. To do this, find and tap Settings > Apps > App name > Storage > Clear data > Restart the phone.

Try this and let me know how it goes!

Since I believe I have a similar problem may I add my details to this topic?

I have recently found that I receive unrequested and unwanted advertisements, mainly for games etc (which I never play) on my Sony XPERIA L1. The ads don't appear to be linked to any specific app but will typically arrive after I leave my home page and go to Whatsap or Messages or the Calendar.

I am not an experienced user and use my telephone for very basic and, I'm sure, unsophisticated purposes. Any adjustments I've made to the settings will, therefore, be by mistake..

Hi @flip43,

Have you been able to detect which app in the phone that is sending the advertisements? As I mentioned earlier in the thread, the easiest way to do so is to use safe mode as this mode temporarily deactivate all downloaded apps on the phone.

It appears to be connected with the Sony News Feed, mention is made onascreen that is pushed at me regularly. It is the most annoying push. partly because it is pushed interrupting what I'm trying to do, partly because the X to cancel it doesn't appear until some seconds have elapsed and partly because hwat it's pushing is entirely irrelvant to me. I know I'm an old git but for me at least this is primarily a phone and only secondarily a computer.

In that case, could you maybe try uninstalling the updates for the app? Find and tap Settings > Apps > Sony News Feed > Tap the three dots in the top right corner > Uninstall updates.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately there is no app called Sony News Feed. I've checked accessingthe path via both the Settings icons - from my third 'home' page and from the pages of icons reached via the apps icon (six dots).

My bad, look for an app called News Suite. Go to Settings > Apps > News Suite > Tap the three dots in the top right corner > Uninstall updates.

No but they come at random times and I could not stay in safe mode for long.

Martin, just to make sure I went back into safe mode and after six minutes I have a message: WAP Push Allow the WAP Push application to receive messages sent by your network operator.

Is this relevant?

I see, @flip43. I do not believe that the message regarding WAP Push is relevant to the behaviour that you are experiencing.

The fact that the ads does not appear in safe mode indicates that they are sent from an app that has been downloaded to the phone. As finding out which app is to blame can be rather tedious, The easiest thing to do to get rid of the ads is to repair the software using Xperia Companion and a computer. Keep in mind though that a software repair will erase all user data from the phone, so make sure to do a backup before proceeding with the repair.

Martin since Yesterday I've used two computers and two cables to try and back up. On each occasion your software fails at 9 or 10 mcategories failed. I'm beginning to lose confidence in Sony.

Hi again, @flip43.

This might be caused by one of the subcategories in the backup called "Other". this category is found ynde "My Data" when you perform a backup. This category includes any third party application installed on the device that supports Backup & Restore, for example Skype, Angry Birds high score, specific settings for Facebook etc.. You might experience that the backup fails when Other is selected. Try unmarking the "Other" category and try again.

Thanks. I seem to have my phone re-installed, time will tell if I've rid myself of the ads that came randomly.

In the meantime, I have lost one of my screens. Is it possible to have a third, even blank? I do not refer to the google page which was never required.

To add another home screen, simply press and hold an empty field on your home page until the phone vibrates, swipe to the left and tap the plus-icon.
