I did a phone reset using the option on the phone. Have not done the software repair as have no access to PC at the moment. Would this be different to doing a factory reset?

I have tried several browsers, chrome, firefox. It is just not the browsers that do not access the internet but some of the apps as well do not work TOMTOM, autorader etc. that require web access. Some apps do work like email etc. but others do not.

I have to reboot and this is hit and miss. I have tried my sim in another phone and that works completely ok, so I have ruled out the problem with my sim to be honest.

Since updating to nougat I have problems with mobile data connections not fully connecting to the internet. I have done a factory reset AND tried the sim in another phone. The sim in another phone works perfectly connecting to the internet every time, however in the Compact X it does not, it appears to connect to 4g fine but cannot find any web pages. REbooting cures the problem until you disconnect mobile data and then reconnect it..

Any ideas what this could be other than a phone fault (although with marshmallow I had NO issues at all with this)...

Thanks for your swift reply!

A software repair will delete all data on the internal storage in the phone, even the Android OS and install a fresh install of the latest available software, that is the big difference between a factory reset and a software repair.

If you have enabled the data saver feature in your phone you can try and turn it off and see if there is any change. You will find this feature in Settings > Data usage > Data saver.

To rule out the SIM card totally, I would recommend trying another SIM card in your phone, just to be totally sure. I understand this may not be possible however since everyone does not have a nano SIM!

Keep me posted!

Hi Jonas,

I have not got data saver enabled so that rules that out. Finding another sim will be problematic but I can ask around and rule that one out as well.

Sounds like I should try a software repair as this will re-install the OS instead of the one installed on top of Marshmallow. I know it is unlikely, but there could be something not quite right there.

I'll keep you posted as I am sure it is not a phone fault as I know this was working before the Nougat update. As you say could be sim (unlikely due to the other testing I done) or software related.

Darren

Hi,

For information another sim card exhibits the same issue (and that is on a different network provider as well). Therefore the repair is the only option and if that does not work then I will send the phone back as developing a fault.

Thanks for the update!

There is one last thing you could try as well before performing that software repair and that is restore the network settings for the phone.

This will forget all your previous Bluetooth pairing, saved Wi-Fi networks and APN settings for your mobile data.

Go to Settings > Backup & reset > Network settings reset > Reset settings.

To download the APN settings again, back to Settings > More > Internet settings > accept and wait for them to be downloaded and installed > reboot your phone.

Let me know how that went and I have a great weekend!

OK a progress report..

I tried a software repair and i still exhibits the same behaviour.

just to try it I also reset the network settings and downloaded the APN setting as suggested.. no luck there either.

It is very hit and miss I cannot get a pattern to it at all.. sometimes it connects fine and then just stops working, other times will not connect at all even post reboot and many tries, it does eventually connect

I tried redoing the APN again straight after a reset and I have also had a system update this morning. So far it seems to be working ok. One thing I have noticed, when 4g is not available it is now dropping down to the slower speeds, something that was not happening prior to the update and despite the settings being set to do this (rather than 4g only). However I am holding my breath as it was very random before so I could just be lucky.

It does change now but strangely did not with the original nougat update prior to the update this morning. So perhaps this was to do with 4g availability and then not using 3g etc. Could have been a bug..
