I have to agree with mksuuk on that one. The issue has been well known for a really long time and in this time us - users and amateurs - have managed to prove that this issue is indeed software related and can be fixed.

I really hope that our long-awaited update will come soon because I really like this phone. Oh and yeah, while they are fixing stuff the camera needs some serious tweaking.

I bought the XAV-AX3005db head unit for my car last year. It connected to my Samsung A70 ok but crashed alot and wouldn't connect at all after a afew months. I have bought a OPPO A74 and all it says when I plug it in is usb device not connected. Can you tell me why this is happening and how it can be solved as this is a total waste of money.

After launch, since day one users are complained in forums and directly to Sony about the screen issue. Some users have directly pointed out what software causes it and how to fix it. Also camera is a problematic, camera takes too long to focus and photos quality is bad, and again, it's not the hardware, but software issue.

And now we all know, that Sony knows the problems and half year later Sony hasn't done anything to fix these issues and Sony -s new tactic is just to copy/paste same message to every complaint - "We're sorry to hear that it's still not solved yet but it will be solved with a software update. Unfortunately I don't have an estimated date on when this update will be available. As a temporary solution a user that has this phenomenon can increase the screen brightness."

Meanwhile Sony released 3 software updates but screen issue is still not fixed. So brand new phone users must install custom ROM to use phone to way as it should be used.

I find this to be totally unacceptable. What kind of company treats it's customers with such disrespect?

After some emails and troubleshooting with the support team, I have received a similar answer as well, that this is a software issue that will be fixed in a software update.

I have to say that I'm honestly impressed by Sony. I think this is the first time in my life that a brand has reached out to me after complaining in a forum about a problem 😂

Same here. Pre-ordered on the 13th of September. No news on a delivery date. The deadline for claiming the headphones is 2-11. I assume Sony will also push out that date if the Xpera 5 iii cannot be delivered in time.

I have a question about the Sony Xperia 10 II and III. I really wanted to try this phone because of the nice design and appeal. Nice colors, no stupid hole punch on display or ugly rear camera layout and the price was good but it's only international. I was going to buy one from Amazon but I see here in the US it lacks many bands on Google Fi and T-Mobile. I would like to know if anyone has this phone here in the US if it only has like 3 4G LTE bands, is it still a good idea to get or no? I really wanted to get this phone and retire my Pixel 3 XL because I also want a phone with SD Card support again.

That error directly relates to storage error (blu ray or hard drive) it could be hard drive failure, you could try backing up the PS4, initialising another drive and checking the download on the other drive.

Ordered at Belsimpel on the 22nd of September, and the delivery date has been pushed forward THREE times now. It was supposed to arrive tomorrow (finally!) but now the order status is showing 29th of October.

Belsimpel cannot give me any further details, and Sony's answer was to contact the retailer - so I am now in a constant loop of having absolutely zero idea when this phone is going to arrive.

It appears that there is not a single Dutch retailer stocking this phone yet - all pre order only, so it is clearly a Sony distribution problem.

Sony - here's a thought, instead of doing a ton of promotion and press releases for your Xperia ranges MONTHS in advance of actually shipping them, don't you think it would be a much MUCH better idea, to actually make the devices first and have them read to ship to your regions before you start promising release dates that you seemingly never meet? This happens every single time you launch an Xperia phone. It's extremely annoying.

So yes, I am posting here in case anyone who works in distribution has a clue what is happening or when the 5 iii might finally arrive in the Netherlands. Three order dates have now passed/not happened. I have no faith at all that this new October 29th date is actually going to happen either.

Not sure why you experts like to characterise abnormal behaviour as normal. The fact is my BT4 phones have never given me this problem.

Do you think I wouldn't have tried various options to reset the BT5 connection already? But the fact is this shouldn't be necessary on a regular basis, which is what I would have to do every time this problem occurs (which is almost every time I connect to the speaker).

The interference of my body or other electronics with BT5 is an entirely new experience for me as a long-term BT4 user. Does BT5 use different frequencies? Can I change this? It would be good to see some suggestions for a permanent solution rather than just constantly resetting in the hope it provides a temporary improvement.

The phone is the XA2.

The cover is Sony's own cover specifically for the XA2.

Your comment indicates that you think it reasonable that a phone case might stop the phone from working properly. I believe you're thinking of a generic case that might cover parts of the phone like the mic, impeding its function. That is not so in this instance. There is clearly something in the substance of the XA2 case that interferes with the internal components of the phone (the mic) - why would any case be designed like this?

There is absolutely no excuse for such stupidity by Sony.

I have now tried Bluemail, Spark and Email (amobear studios). All these 3 manage to detect new mail and display notifications just seconds after a new mail has arrived in Gmail.

But i would like to use the Gmail app. This is increasingly frustrating. There is also a thread on Reddit about it.

I have the same trouble, Sony just make the fingerprint sensor disabled when the phone is locked. My XZ1 never had this problem it's infuriating.

For anyone else reading this I advise going to settings>accessibility and then turning off any service and then trying one handed mode to see if it works with that service turned off. I did this and much like the OP i discovered that Macrodroid was blocking it, but specifically the Macrodroid UI interaction service.

Mine just arrived: I can confirm - CoD and Asphalt are both 2Mb or less initial footprint and can be disabled from the start, so they never "update" (install).... similar story for the 5 different Facebook apps (app/services/messenger/app manager/something else) - they're already there, but they can all be disabled without getting "creative", so ~100Mb stoage wasted, but at least they never waste battery/memory/bandwidth.

Change it to 3:2 and you'll get larger use of sensor and you can add the image correction, it won't affect the output size or quality in my experience

I just looked under the camera settings (auto) and I noticed it was set on 17 mpx default and the distortion correction was turned off. My question is: Should I take it to 12 mpx and turn on t he distortion correction? Or should I let the settings be? I just want the best camera quality and sadly the pics showbox look kind of soft. Natural colors but not as sharp nor as much detail as my S8. speed test

Unfortunately it didn't work for me (my computer also stopped working at near same time as my phone and only got my pc fixed other day) I did all the steps: device disconnected from computer, turn off your device and wait for 5 seconds (can't do it because no power), press hold down volume key and whilst holding ih connect device but the application never automatically came up.

Thank you for the suggestion but I think I will send my phone is for a repair.

I had a chat session with Sony support, but after going thru all the usual questions about settings, battery etc, they told me its likely a gmail issue.

I'm not entirely convinced if thats the case.

Using another mail app atm, but i would really like to use google apps mostly.

I'd a problem with Xperia 5 dual last month in eaaranty time. No charging with any charger, no charging light and 0% power. After 2 days i try it again. Charging light for a short time, Sony logo and than all off!

I send my phone to service (warranty) and they changed mainboard and within 4 workingdays I get it back.

Very fast service (https://www.w-support.com/)!

So I think your phone must be repaired.

I have had my Alpha 1 since the beginning of June. Tonight I was shooting after dark and turned the exposure compen sation dial to -3. It will not move from that position. I am pressing the centre button all the way, but nothing happens. Gently tapping does not help, nor does anything else I have tried.

Is there anything I can try apart from sending it off for repair?

The problem seems to be BT5, as I've tried another BT phone and get exactly the same issue, yet if I switch to a BT4 phone, there is no problem. I disagree that putting any object between the phone and the speaker is an acceptable reason for BT5 stuttering.

BT5 is supposed to be so much better than BT4 in many ways, including range. So how come in my experience the BT5 range is so terrible and prone to interference sometimes at the slightest 'blockage'? Without obstruction, BT5 starts stuttering at about 15 feet, while with BT4 I got to 30 feet and it was still fine (I'd have to leave the building to test further).

Is there any way to get the BT5 hardware to emulate BT4? Maybe it's a frequency issue or the specific communication protocols BT5 uses, though trying various tweaks in the developer menu seem to have no effect - maybe there's a secret combination that makes BT5 live up to promise.

Or maybe the problem is my speaker. Clearly it's only BT4 but a BT5 phone just dumbs down to what the other device uses, right?

Yes definitely - the official Sony case is not compatible with the phone. What an insane statement.

Actually, for any phone cover to interfere with the mic in the phone is an insane statement - under the Sale of Goods Act that's called "not fit for purpose".

I suggest that you start with a software repair with Xperia Companion before flashing ftf files.

When the device is not recognised, charge it, switch it off, start Xperia Companion and in one of the first screens of Xperia Companion tick the choice that your device isn't recognised or is a smartwatch.

Just follow the instructions on screen.

I have a XZ3 (H9493) purchased on the french internet. This smartphone is of Asian origin (singapour). After the upgrade to android 10 the XZ2 and XZ3 had a bug (recognized by SONY). I did not receive the correction by my French operator because my XZ3 is not recognized. SONY can't help me 😡.

I tried to flash the smartphone, but flashtoll does not allow conversion to ftf file for model H9493.

Can you help me ? Thank You.

Not all the time but I have to very careful. As I said originally, it's very easy to take burst shots by accident.

The other option is to use the on-screen shutter, but again it is very easy to take burst photos by mistake.

It's odd that burst photos aren't mentioned in the User Manual. Also it appears as though Sony have changed later Xperia 10 models to allow disabling of burst mode (see 's earlier post).

I haven't used the camera much yet so hopefully it will become easier to avoid burst photos in the future!

Camera still the same... Android 10 was much better overall!

Hey AlexandruRai,

Have you tried to clear the Browser's cached data? ( Settings - Apps & Notifications - Browser - Storage - Clear cache and data )

Also, try to uninstall the Browser's updates by clicking on the vertical dots on the top right corner and select Uninstall Updates, this has sorted a similar issue for me.

Xperia 5 (J9210) is getting every month security updates and Xperia 1 (J9110) get nothing since may 😞

both devices using the same software...

On the Home screen, touch and hold the icon and drag this icon to the desired position.In case you want to delete icons or apps: make a long press on the app icon, and choose to uninstall or delete it.

Hey @ jwattam

Mainly you can try the basic steps to reset the Bluetooth connection on your device by clearing cache and data and force stop for the Bluetooth app, you will find it under system apps.

For the point that you mentioned when you put your body between the 2 devices when they're connected, I believe this normal due to the nature of the connection itself as the BT waves start to stutter when they're interrupted by solid matters including the human body.

Anyways, try the instructions above and check if it will improve the connection.

"It seems like its a software issue and that it will be solved in the future (no release date) via an update.
The temporary fix is to increase the brightness of the screen."

I went through this issue with Sony before and their reply was that as long as the microphone is working fine without the case, they didn't do much really about it and they advised to check another case.

Hello everyone,

After reporting this issue to Sony mainly with most of the new devices, they use to to raise the matter to technical department when it comes to the Xperia 1 & 5 to roll an update to fix the issue I guess!

But even after the software version update the issue remains! so, they advised sending the device to repair to fix the issue and it gets resolved by doing that.

For Xperia 5 ll for example, when you contact their support, they just do the normal and basic troubleshooting steps which ends by sending the device to the repair ass well.

Sad enough the fingerprint scanner is poor on some Sony phones, but it gets resolved eventually by the repair and sometimes it gets resolved by the software repair with the Xperia Companion ( rarely happens).

Also just to point out, the fingerprint sensor test from the support app on the device is more accurate to tell if the fingerprint sensor is faulty or not. If it's not working it will most likely give you an error message.

So, mainly to solve this issue, you have to contact Sony cause it will probably end with repair.

Well, sorry for the delay.

Managed to get an air 2 for a few minutes to try the controller on, as with yours, the connection between the two seemed to do nothing except make the charging sound briefly, before doing nothing with the connection.

As it was a friend's Mavic he wasn't too keen on me borrowing it for extended periods to try different firmwares etc, so I will try to see if either next drone FW update, or phone FW update corrects the issue.

When he pops round again (this weekend) I might be able to get some more testing done.

Fwiw, I think the issue is the usb accessory service not correctly detecting the controller as an accessory, and instead seeing it as a computer connection

Let me add another alternative like Total Commander for file transfer, a very solid app with a Windows equivalent which hides many many options behind its interface.
