Nice one, hopefully we'll get it for our 2 x Xperia 5's soon. Since the bluetooth update on my Focus yesterday I've only lost connection once so I cleared cache taken the car off my phone & phone off my car, rebooted the phone & re-paired the phone with the car, so far no disconnections today. Spending so much time doing all the suggestions is a pain, good job I'm retired !!!

If you have a Ford with Sync 3 then I think it is a Ford problem, not a Sony one. The same thing happened to me when I did the last Sync update and I have a XZ1C that I have kept on Android 8 so it hasn't been updated for a few years. A few other people on a Ford car forum had the same problem and none of them had Sony phones.

Ford found an update today for bluetooth & I've just got back from a 15 min drive & it disconnected once. ☹️

On the brighter side (hopefully) Sony have emailed me back today to say they are aware of an issue with bluetooth following recent Android 11 updates & a further update is due either in April or May.

Well, they said there will be firmware updates to rectify the Bluetooth issues that happened after the last updates. I think some of them are released to some devices and the issue was resolved.

After an update the phone will need a bit of time to optimize.

You will experience longer battery life after a few days.

And take some time to go to the Support app and read about Battery.

In setting search for restricted apps.

You have Facebook on top.

When you're not desparetely in need of it all time time you might add it to restricted apps.

It won't use battery in the background and notifications will only pop up after you open your device.

Plus that you won't get bothered by apps trying to distract you from living your life.

I restricted WhatsApp, Mail, Slack and a few more.

All notifications switched off.

Notifications appear when I have time to open my device.

Peace of mind regained.

I'm having the same problem with my Sony Xperia 5 running Android 11 where the bluetooth keeps disconnecting then reconnecting. Today it did it 4 times on a 15 minute journey. Car Is a Ford Focus running sync3. I've already tried to un-pair the phone the re-pair but that hasn't helped. I've also tried clearing the cache to no avail. This has been happening since I did 2 or 3 recent android updates. I've suspected that Ford Sync3 might be the cause as I'd done an update on the car at the same time so as my car was in the dealership for another unrelated issue I've added this problem to the issues for them to investigate.

You can also try to clear cache and data and force stop the Bluetooth on your phone and try again , go to settings> apps & notifications> 3 dots on top right > show system> Bluetooth> storage > clear cache > clear data> press the back button> force stop.

When getting in my car my 5 ii bluetooth keeps disconnecting then connecting about 10 times before it finally settles down. It's extremely annoying especially when you are trying to make a call! Any ideas how to stop this?

I had no signal issues on voice issues on my £129 Huawei device for two full years, just got this £700 device and last few days have issues with people hearing me on voice calls, does Sony know about this issue, as this phone has been available for almost a year now.

Wifi calling reappeared after I put the sim card into the sim 2 slot and then put it back into sim 1. Unless it was a coincidence. I've restarted the phone a few times now and all is good

The Google app update worked for me a day after the initial wave of this error being reported. BUT it came back again 2 days later.

For the next week the phone would frequently go blank and then reboot when scrolling down what used to be called "Google Now" (the news feed to the left of the home screen)

To fix it, Google told me to clear the cache and data for both the Google app & Chrome on the phone.

Since then I have had no blank screen freeze reboots and the phone is not slightly lagging like it had started doing.

Yes, you were right.

Google's pictures app seems to have changed. There is now a bin for deleted photos that will clear itself after a few weeks rather than a complete delete as default.

Annoying but possibly useful.

I will now have to go into the settings and empty the bin before I attach to the pc to reap all the pictures

There is an option to update network settings in the phone call menu which triggers a Vodafone set up for wifi calling that often needs to be done after a major update. It will do it itself eventually so could have been that being triggered.

I have WiFi calling back on my phone but I'm not sure how. I swopped the SIM from 1 to SIM 2 and then back again and restarted the phone and the provision was there. Unless Sony had sent a patch from my case number to rectify the issue?

Hello, I've just bought a new unlocked Xperia 5 ii with a Vodafone 5G sim from Carphone Warehouse. It was really important that the handset supported WiFi calling for my work. I put the sim in the phone and yes wifi calling was enabled! All good until the phone started updating to Android 11 and now there is no provision for WiFi calling. Anyone experiencing this problem and know of a fix. I have contacted Sony support and have a case number and have tried reinserting the sim card.

Hi there, Xperia 5 ll doesn't have manual mode inside camera as there Photo Pro App for manual capturing. You can open the app itself , or you can be directed to the app from the normal Camera app by pressing on the camera sign showed in the above screenshot. Android 11 seems to be buggy with this I have a Xperia 5 II patched with Android 11 - 1 march 2021

So I have a Zywall 110 setup with VPN server with www.dynu.com name.ddnsfree.com so that it only allows by a given IP on the firewall which my phone has the dynu app to update the IP I'm on over 4G...with me so far?

If I reboot my phone and don't update the IP for name.ddnsfree.com that the firewall on my Zywall is allowing I get connection failed...Ok thats meant to happen so a run the dynu app on my phone to update the IP try connecting the VPN again and not only does it fail I see no traffic to my VPN server.

At this point your think you have not set it up right but wait theirs more!

I reboot the phone run the dynu app to update the IP I'm on over 4G then connect to my VPN and it works!

Can you try to do the ear proximity sensor test from the support app in and out of safe mode and check the results?

If the issue persist in both, try to perform software repair by the Xperia companion and check if it will work.

However, they have released a work around as it might solve the issue like restarting the device and force restart. But if the issue is not resolved by that, we'll need to wait until the software version is released.

And I am not too happy I have rvertedback to my old ZenXFi mp4 player which I have had for 15odd years andstill works even on win10. Why have sony made this so difficult? It stresses me out not good for my stroke brain.

Upon connecting the device, unlock the phone and allow the pc access to the file system, until you do this, the pc will show no contents on the phone.

I find that Android is increasingly becoming a piece of *****. Android 10 was buggy as an anthill, but at least the fingerprint reader worked for me 9 out of 10 times.

With 11, I get system crashes, stalls and glitches. I have an Xperia 5 too.

The problem is this with the phone up with a ~~long uptime~~ (not even that long uptime and it fails) screen mirroring does not work but if I reboot the phone then screen mirroring works.

In Linux file systems 'deleted' stands for deleted. Deleted at once without the possibility to get the files back.

So the bin has been introduced, just like in the Windows file system.

Files end in a bin and should be deleted with a command to delete those.

It sounds logic that files that are not definitely thrown out of the bin stay in the bin until the bin is emptied.

So it sounds logic as well that these files are copied too.

Maybe ask Google.

along path "Xperia 5 ii / internal storage / DCIM / 100ANDRO"

for the last 2 months there have been pictures with the name starting .trashed (dot trashed) in the folder with the photos I expected to see. They are all photos that had been deleted on the phone.

Why are they still there and not deleted!

I am no product engineer, yet I think there are people who are not as well versed as you with cameras. So the default camera app is rather "basic" since it would be too overloaded if they would integrate EVERY software feature possible.

So needing to purchase a pro-app for more advanced use cases is not that bad imo.

I have just updated ALL of the apps through the App store. Restarted phone and let it run uninterupted for a few minutes, as not to upset it!!

No, because I found several entires confirming this option was removed. I don't want to waste hours for backing up and restoring my media files while most likely this is not going to fix it. Would be great to get confirmation from other users here too that this is issue persists for others too.

The Xperia 5 did had in fact a manual mode according to the user manual (Xperia 5 Manual), but on the Xperia 5 II up to date manual (Xperia 5 II Camera) there is no reference to a manual mode option.

In many of the camera guides I see about using the camera on the 5, I see references to a manual mode, however when I choose Mode in the camera app, there is no manual option listed, just selfie, pano etc.

Any thoughts on this or anyone else having the same issue?

I'm at a disadvantage being that I'm bedbound disabled. We are coming out of lockdown but they have not even offered me a vaccine so probably can't get out to post phone. Also no proof of vaccine means I don't have a carer to help.

I bought mine at launch day and I had no problems. Now mine won't return, I'm sick of restarting and hard resets etc. Done it all and nothing helps. So sick I'm definitely not using Sony if they can't fix what I payed for. Also as a feature that is advertised to sell the phone, I have the right to ask for my money back.

Also had the issue this morning. Rebooted my phone last night (something I rarely do) and when I turned it back on it wouldn't accept fingerprint and manager had gone. When In diagnostics, device asks to register fingerprints but system crashes saying you've timed out. I rebooted again and fingerprints are back. FLAKEY SONY! FWIW the scanner on mine was appalling for first few months (I got mine at release in Oct 2019)

Yes, no difference in Safe Mode. When trying to answer the call the screen went black. However, I was using my Bose headphones and by using the answer button at the headset I could start the phone call . When the call opened then the screen became normal.

You wanted to see that embarrassing comparison "Xperia 5 II vs Z3 Compact" and here you have it. During making this comparison, I have found the source of the problem. Xperia 5 II is castrated of TOF sensor, which means it needs better light conditions to auto focus ...or flash lamp, which Z3 Compact is using while it is not equipped in TOF sensor. Z3 Compact blinks (using the lamp) for piece a of second to auto focus during low light. I can understand that Sony wanted to safe piece of dollar by removing TOF sensor, but PLEASE. It is so much embarrassing that they did not deployed so much simple solution of the problem. Just blinking the light. There were few updates and they did nothing with this "Best Camera in the phone for professionals".

PS. You welcome Sony for beeing beta tester and discovering the problem. Gratification would be pleased.

To add to the previous, the phone is Xperia 5 II, with A11 and all apps are running latest versions. I have been playing with different screen and screen saver settings, but these haven't helped.

Since the A11 update I have an intermittent problem with the display going black when a call comes in. I haven't been able to establish a firm pattern or situation when this happens, but I have a feeling that it is just when I'm using the phone with some other app. A call comes in, display goes black, the ring sound is active and I'm not able even to get the buttons visible at the bottom row. If I press the on/off, that cuts the call and after a moment the phone goes back to normal.

In general, I am frustrated with Android as there can be so many different ways the phone behaves with an incoming call. Most often you swipe up to answer, sometimes you get buttons at the top, sometimes an app can hide all this - and now the screen goes black.

I know that I might get crucified for this, but I do miss the Windows phone. Maybe there weren't all apps available, but it was a solid business phone that integrated well to the business infra and was totally predictable. Android is a toy. Sigh...

update has been garbage.

the phone will no longer stream to certain bluetooth devices, android 10 is fine though. i've noticed over the last few days that the finger print pattern to unlock the device stutters half way through the pattern, and although it recognises the pattern, it can take 5 seconds+ just to unlock the phone. one of the worst software updates i've ever known. factory setting etc etc, don't waste your time. won't achieve anything.

Steps to take.

- Reboot

- Wait for system to settle

- Install Google Files and delete seldom used apps

Hello, I have noticed the performance on my Xperia 5 II is dreadful since the Android update, will there be an update soon to iron out any defects?

It is pretty terrible at the moment.

thanks for that suggestion. appreciate it. hasn't changed anything though. still glitching. what was the purpose of android 11 when 10 worked just fine as it is? hopefully the next update will eradicate this, or will probably just make it worse.

Then try this:

- goto settings and scroll down

- tap on 'about phone' and tap several times on build number

- it will reveal 'developer options'

- go system -> advanced -> developer oprtions

- scroll down to Bluetooth-AVRCP-version

- try AVRCP 1.4 or even 1.3

- test again

Cheers. Tried everything. The Bose speaker isnt compatible with Android 11. Paired the phone up with a different brand speaker, no problem. Paired the Bose up with an android 10 device, again no problem. Bose no longer provide support for the speaker either. Is there any way of reverting the phone back to android 10? Thanks.

Hi there, if you're using Bluetooth connection with the soundbar, try to unpair both of them, clear cache and data and force stop for Bluetooth app, if that didn't work, try to perform the software repair by the Xperia companion and check if that will solve the issue or not.

not sure if it ties in with the subject below, as it seems to relate to headphones. Since the last update, its impossible to stream anything through my Bose Soundlink Bar. doesn't matter what the app is, spotify, bbc, bt sport, youtube, everything glitches, to the point where the specific app will actually stop itself playing. does it matter that i have the headphone app installed???? its definitely not the sound bar, as other phones and tablets have no issue whatsoever streaming through the bar. tried safe mode, i've even factory reset and nothing has changed. is my phone goosed or is there an easy fix to this? terrible update. any help greatly appreciated. Security flaw

I've owned my Xperia 5ii for a few weeks now, and its running the latest update. Its a great phone.

I was setting up the security etc, in case I ever lost the phone or it was stolen, and all works well when I use Google's find my phone feature to locate my mobile phone.

The problem is, that if someone stole my phone, they can quite easily turn OFF: wifi/mobile data/bluetooth etc from the lock screen with the pull down menu, WITHOUT having to unlock the phone. Which would then make it impossible to find my stolen phone if someone took it!! My last two Samsung phones didnt allow this, you needed the unlock pin to be able to toggle those settings.

How can this be possible??

As a temp fix, I've had to edit those settings OUT of the pull down menu, but that just makes it less accessible for me to toggle those settings during normal use.

Xperia 5 fingerprint reader freezing after update to Android 11

Just to make it clear. I find Xperia 5 fingerprint sensor to be less good than in other phones. Even after following all instructions on how to register fingerprints and use the sensor it still worked on the first try in 9 out of 10 cases.

However after upgrading to Android 11 the reader randomly stops working at all. From time to time - sometimes 30 minutes and others 6 hours after a restart - the sensor simply stops working. the message is ”try cleaning the sensor” - but it is not related to that. It simply needs a restart, and then it works again for a while.

Testing it in the service menu shows the sensor is ok, so this makes me feel it is a software issue caused by the recent Android 11 update.

Had the same issue this morning, it happen when I switched off the phone. When turned it on I soon discovered that the fingerprint manager had totally vanished and the sensor was not accepting and input what so ever!

After a brief panic and reading various web pages I decided to power down the phone again (fully turn off, not just a restart) and leave it for 30 seconds. When I rebooted the phone I tried the fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone, I know that after it has been turned off the sensor doesn't unlock the phone but prompts you to input your pin which it did. Unlocked the phone with the pin and the fingerprint manager had returned!

Hope this simple fix works for you as it did for me.

yes I have done that, I know it works because when I connect the phone the Sony Xperia Companion app opens up and recognises the phone. However, the music centre does not which is strange.

Perhaps there may be another way to transfer all the songs and playlists, or through a different app?

I've always loved Sony products, and they used to be a lot more user friendly with stuff like this. I remember having the original Walkman phones. they were brilliant! But lately, I'm sad to say, the quality of Sony phone just doesn't compare anymore 😞

try to connect the device using the original USB cable. once you connect the device wait for the notification on the device.

Yes I have downloaded that and have put all my songs and playlists on it - however when I plug in my Xperia phone, the app doesn't seem to pick up the phone which is weird. I allow all access but it still doesn't want to locate the phone

After installing the Sony Headphones Connect app, I was able to reconnect the Bose SoundSport headphones! I'm not sure what the app did, but it instructed me to go back into the Bluetooth setting and pair them from there (which is something I tried many times before) and this time it worked. I can only assume that the app may have reset some lingering setting somewhere in Android and that did the trick.

Just for completeness, I did reset the headphones before several times and made sure that they were running the latest firmware, so the only thing I did now to solve the problem was just installing and doing the connection procedure through the Sony Headphones Connect app.

unfortunately Sony will not allow you to modify any images data captured by the camera app,. I suggest to head on XDA forum for more help

Yes, tried both already (safe mode and Bose Connect app) but to no avail. The behaviour in safe mode is exactly the same; through the app, the app identifies the headphones (which I think is the same step as when, through Settings, the Android Bluetooth shows them in the "Available devices" list) but then cannot pair them.

Any other idea?

can you try to boot your device to safe mode? just try long tapping the power off option. then try to re connect your device and the headphone.

does your headphone have its own app? try connecting thru that app. or Download Sony's headphone app on google play
