I have recently purchased and installed a 55XR80 TV
However I have had to factory reset the TV on 2 separate occasions due to app launch failures as below.
The 1st occasion was the AV launcher would not open for any of the hdmi ports which configured.
I have my firestick connected to hdmi 4 and a Blu-ray player connected to hdmi 1.
I tried clearing the TV cache, hard reboots and leaving unplugged at powered down for 30 mins none of which resolved the issue.
However a factory reset did resolve the issue but at the expense of me having to set everything back up again !!
A few days later BBCiplayer app was doing exactly same thing by not launching. I also tried channel 4 and ITVX apps which also said launching but the screen never changed and the apps never opened on the screen.
Once again, I cleared the cache of the TV, then cleared the cache of each individual apps as well as the You View app.
The catch up apps still wouldn’t launch correctly so I tried clearing the data from the apps and a forced stop and restart but once again none of the apps would launch correctly 🤬
I confirmed the TV was connected and communicating with the internet.
Because the AV launcher was a system app and the BBCiplayer & ITVX apps are part of the You View system app I could not uninstall the apps giving me an issue and reinstall to resolve the issue.
Once again a factory reset of the TV resolved the issue !!
Is the Sony Google TV software really this buggy ?
I don’t want a factory reset to become a regular fix for this issue.
I have other TVs in my household which have never needed a factory reset and this new Bravia Google TV has had 2 already !!
Ideally, I would like to know what’s causing this issue and how to resolve without the drastic and inconvenient measure of a factory reset.
Reading through other users issues and Sony help videos it appears that Sony accept the factory reset as a possible solution. Please Sony if this is the case why not a facility to back up my users settings and a restore user settings option to make the factory reset method less painful for the end user.
Hi,
I have the same TV as you but in 65 inches size since two weeks.
I am sorry to hear that your Bravia is so unstable, I can only say the opposite about mine.
The first thing that comes to my mind is a Software Update. Press the wrench button on the remote, then Help and shoose check for updates. If the latest software is already installed I am afraid you have a hardware specific problem.
I assume you have registered your TV in your MySony account since you also have a community account, so from there it is very easy to contact Sony Supprt directly and they will be happy to help.
All the best!
Good to hear that you are not having the same issues with your new TV which I'm experiencing.
Yes I did the firmware update and all app updates before use.
I suspect that the issue maybe the YouView app which comes pre-installed on the Sony UK market sets.
The reason behind my thinking is that I havent used the YouView app since the last factory reset and ive not needed to reset again since. Hopefully this will continue.
I also joined a Sony social media group where other Sony UK users had reported issues using the YouView app.
If only Sony had given us UK owners the ability to remove the YouView app completely !
