Release protection USB HDD

I have inadvertently protected a recording from Freeview on my HDD connected to the REC USB of my Sony XE90 65" TV..
When trying to delete the recording I get the message 'To delete, release the protection first' but I cannot find a way to do this.
Any help would be appreciated.

In this thread, at the top of the first page click on the green ‘Solved! Go To Solution.’ bar and follow the procedure laid down in @LightFoot fine posting there, which @IanTomBower  acknowledged worked for him.

If it still doesn’t work for you, please come back and tell us where it fails, and also the model number of your TV, in case it is not an Android TV, and this might explain why the procedure would not work for you.
