Hi everyone I was wondering if anybody could help. I have a 4 month old XH9505 TV but I'm having some serious problems with picture quality. I stated in another thread about how the motionflow settings of min min to get judder free native apps suddenly stopped working and even with these settings I get bad judder.
This is not the only problem though as my TV has seriously bad blurring around moving objects while mostly watching sports either in the native apps or Sky TV. I have found out these are known as motion artifacts.
While watching a standard definition broadcast everything is a mess with artifacts but I have been told this is to be expected on older signals but while watch HD broadcasts mostly sport like football or golf I still see really really bad artifacts. In 4K the artifacts around football players is a lot better but the picture quality is still terrible and while watching 4K Formula 1 I get artifacts around the cars in some camera angles and the grass around the track blurs really badly in motion and the on screen graphics which are constantly on screen have the blurred outline around them. While watching football in 4K as the camera follows the action around the pitch the grass blurs really badly and just becomes a smudged mess with no definition. I have also noticed while watching Netflix 4K content like a drama series the random artifacts will show up, not very often but it still happens.
I was hoping another owner of the same TV set could tell me if this is all normal or not. I have searched around a lot online and found the same problem being mentioned about other models of Sony TV's and them having the same artifact problems but the person who created these threads stops replying so I'm left wondering if they fixed it.
Thanks in advance for any help.
I have a different and older model but my own experience was to turn off all picture enhancements and start from a basic set of settings on one decent source and see what works. In my case I disabled pretty much all options (motion flow, contrast enhancer, digital noise reduction etc etc) that supposedly enhance image but in my opinion just added more artifacts or made the picture worse.
I'd make a note of your current settings and then just go through and turn off all the settings, see what it looks like then maybe turn on one setting, try the levels for the setting then move on. I'm probably a minority here but I honestly feel that most 'picture enhancements' just add more problems and image processing. I hate the 'soap opera' effect and insanely high contrast and colour levels I was getting until I went through the settings.
Also note that each source (input) needs individually setting for sound and picture settings...so HDMI needs setting then Digital terresetrial TV (Freeview) , then apps etc.
Hi newcastlelad, I can see that users suggested almost everything on the other thread, why don't' you contact Sony and ask for it to be taken further?
Sony support can't and won't do anything.
@newcastlelad Your issues lie within the settings. What preset do you use? Custom or Cinema are normally advisable to use as they're most colour accurate.
Just to be clear, the motion control settings are the cause of artifacts, not the solution for them. Disable motion smoothness and clearness, use film mode on low for the likes of Sky, high on the TV's built-in apps and off altogether for a high quality source such as a blu-ray player or games console.
