Boosting Sony Handycam DCR-HC18E capabilities in the dark with an Infrared Illuminator / Torch?
Can someone please advise if it's possible to use an additional infrared torch to allow my old Sony Handycam DCR-HC18E to see more than just a few feet in the dark?
I'm asking because I currently have a problem with large rodents in my garden, but can't justify spending hundreds of pounds on a night vision / IR scope for my old springer air rifle.
I've heard that some people have adapted old camcorders to provide a budget method of overcoming this problem. My thinking is that if the existing infrared diode is weak, providing a more powerful alternative source of IR light will boost its capabilities.
If anyone has any experience doing this or any feedback, it would be very welcome.
Many thanks,
Bob

Hi SpringerBob, the camera already have this feature implemented, check page 48 here: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/3088/30883371M.pdf
I don't know about adding a torch, and the manual doesn't mention any compatible ones.
