Flashing image of camera with diagonal line through, what does this mean DSC-W800

Have just purchased a DSC-W800 camera and took a few photos when I first received it.  However, after a little while, it said I had 2 more photos left which I used.  Then it momentarily flashed an image of a camera with a diagonal line through it and shut down.  Tried a few more times, but still the same.  As I didn't buy a memory card, and thinking this might be the problem, went ahead and acquired one.  After inserting it into camera this morning, switched on and it is still the same.  What does this mean and can anyone help solve the problem.

Hey Joanie-46,

Honestly, I don't think there's much left to do, I'd just say remove the SD card, eject the batteries and leave it off for a while and see what happens.

If you have an access to the menu, maybe try to initialize it ''(Settings) -  (Main Settings) - [Initialize].''

If the issue remains, I'd recommend getting in touch with Sony support, or get back to your retailer since it's a new camera as you said.

Cheers,

Thank you SkyNet for your reply. In the meantime, I was clicking through 'How to Use' and came across a list of icons and indicators and found my one, which indicated 'Remaining battery warning'.  I put the camera on battery charge, in fact it has just finished and I checked it out - and, hallelujah, it's working!  You've probably guessed, I'm a beginner.  One has to learn somewhere, so don't be surprised if you find me again on thise site!!  Cheers Joan.
