Sony 1080 receiver switching input always shows home screen

Hello all, i’ve Just bought and set up my new 1080 and it’s almost perfect except for one thing. For some reason whenever I switch inputs (I.e to Netflix or turn on the PlayStation) the input switches ok but then just after the home screen pops up. This is really annoying as it means I then need to press the home button on the amp remote and I can’t just use 1 remote to control everything. Searching the net shows other people have solved this by disabling HDMI CEC but I really don’t want to do this as it would still mean having to switch the inputs manually.

Anybody have any ideas on how to solve this? many thanks in advance.

B8. So a couple of years older and ARC rather than eARC.

2021 and no one should expect Sony to fix this amateurish behavior on the receiver. It's going to be this way forever. So I turned off all HDMI CEC on it and devices. Still rocking with the Sony Universal Remote "RM-AV2100" The Commander. I had 2 of them. One finally died, but the other is still working great. One remote turns it all on and off and controls the Receiver also. Still pretty pathetic they haven't fixed this annoying behavior all these years on their receivers. Oh well. Still a great sounding AV Amp for under $500 US dollars.

This is similar to what I did. ATV for all streaming and cable box to receiver. TV has just become a dumb 4k Monitor. Which is fine I don't watch OTA channels, its all cable box.  Turned off all HDMI CEC and using my old Sony Universal Remote to turn everything on and off and control all devices. No more ridiculous HOME screen on the receiver. It's still silly and ridiculous that it can't be turned off and people have to do workarounds. If the thing didn't sound so good and price I would have returned this immediately.

HI Saitama,

I'd recommend contacting the Sony support team to raise the matter further with them here, and see what they would say or advise.

I've just decided to try out CEC for the first time and I'm seeing this exact issue! I thought I was doing something wrong!!

I can't believe Sony haven't addressed this, and given the age of the device I doubt they will.

Really never buying Sony AV equipment again they just don't seem to care (had a soundbar with issues too)

This is my second Sony receiver after the 1050 and man, it is just as slow and clunky. This switching to Home issue is mindblowingly frustrating and I am annoyed enough never to purchase Sony again, they just don’t care.

@jamesahyoung, have you tried any of the steps suggested on the thread? If yes, please list them so that we can move from there.

Also, please write down the full model number of the defective receiver + Any special details about the issue that you're experiencing.

I’ve just rediscovered this issue after purchasing an Apple TV. I did manage to find a work around where if I plug my Apple TV directly into my TV instead of going through my AV unit, I can set the audio to output via ARC to the AV and then the problem no longer persists. I haven’t noticed any limitations to this approach yet vs going directly through the AV.
