When I use the dedicated Prime and Netflix buttons on my Z9J remote control I can only get Dolby Surround via my Arcam amp. If I access them via my Apple TV box for the same programmes I can get Dolby Atmos sound. Does anyone know why this is?
Thanks, HannahEd01. The software is up to date, downloaded the latest last week. Have gone back to factory settings also, but to no avail. Currently in conversation with Sony, sending them videos etc, so hoping they may come up with a solution!
Be aware that some apps on Android TV operating system do not do Atmos. For instance my 2022 Sony Bravia has the Disney Plus app installed but it will only show 5.1 in film descriptions and play titles in 5.1 Dolby Surround. However If I use my Amazon Fire TV Stick 4k MAX the Disney Plus app shows Atmos in the description for the very same movie titles and plays them in Atmos as expected. Makes no sense cuz the HBO app on my same Bravia TV shows Atmos in film descriptions and Atmos works as it should. This tells me that vendors are coming to terms or something. I hope app creators work this out at some point. I read an article on this but can't find it. If I do I will report back with a link.
Thanks, has been, for your reply. Your experience is obviously the same as mine. Use the onboard apps and the descriptions on Netflix and Prime offer 5.1 audio, I access the same programmes via the fire cube and I can playback in Dolby Atmos. I also noticed during Wimbledon the BBC iplayer was offering some matches in UHD and these were available via the app on the fire cube but using the built in app on the Sony the same matches were only available in HD. Presumably at some time in the future the on board apps might be up dated.
Well Disney and Sony must have finally worked something out because after app and system updates the Disney Plus app native to my Bravia TV now displays ATMOS and Dolby Vision as well as IMAX Enhanced etc. And it works great. No more need to switch to external devices. For now anyways !
