vaio BSOD wheb setting oem windows pro
Did you just install or make a change to a hard drive controller? If so, there's a good chance that the change you made caused the STOP 0x0000007B error.

HI weldonits,
Windows XP doesn't provide support for all SATA drives and this is probably the cause of the BSOD.
For instructions on installing the necessary drivers during the install process have a look at the following link.

thanks Katerine....did not add/change any sw or hw....it's a brand noew out of the box machine
thanks Rich.....nice links. I downloaded the sata controller drivers from intel web site. I used the f6 and installed from a usb floppy drive. It installs the drives and copies the files ok. Then gets to the windows install next step....Setting Up Windows ......that's when the BSOD happens. It's a nightmare!
Hi weldonits,
As I’m sure you have gathered by now, there seems to be some sort of incompatibility problem with the Win XP version you are installing and the notebook hardware.
I have no clue as to what exactly, but does the XP install disk have SP3 slipstreamed? This will give the best hope of resolving compatibility issues.
Sorry but this is the only suggestion I have. Maybe someone else will have further thoughts...

thanks Rich......have also tried a xp pro sp3 reinstallation disk but bsod at same point so dont think the cd version is the issue. I may see if the xp mode will give a workable solution but having a clean install of xp is the preferred choice. thanks
Good luck weldonits.
If you manage to find a solution/workaround please let as known as it may be of help to other members of this forum in the future.
