screen problem

Sony VAIO Laptop Model VGN-CR42Z/R turns on but the screen remains dark all the time. I still can see a very dim image. The laptop works fine with an external monitor.

welcome to Club VAIO..

I take it you have checked the Vaio's brightness settings..

It sounds like the inverter but it also could possibly be a faulty cable or backlight bulb..

I suggest you contact Vaio support to arrange a repair, either by clicking Support at the top of this page or use the following link:Vaio support

Under Log-in option 2: Select your VAIO model, next to Select Model Category - Select your model from the drop down list, in your case VGN CR

Then next to Select Model - select CR42Z/R

Then click Log-In, the click on the Get in Touch tab
