Stamina/Speed switch malfunction?

Hi guys,
I literally just baught a Sony vaio S series, i7 QM , NVIDIA graphic card, 12GB ram  etc...
I have not used it yet, the first thing i touched when turning the laptop on was the stamina/speed switch, and it doesnt seem to be working as i expected it..

the problem is for some reason it would'nt switch to the NVIDIA graphic card when i turn it to the speed mode. Remember this is a fresh brand new laptop that just arrived, the NVIDIA graphic card is not faulty because its GPU renders a minor 3D sample in the NVIDIA control panel.

I was wondering, is there something i am supposed to do to make this work? any settings i need to change? Ultimately what i want is while on the stamina mode, the intel HD graphic should be in use,  otherwise while on speed mode, the NVIDIA graphics should be in use, which at the moment is not the case!
some feedback is very appreciated!

Thanks.

Return it and have it replaced. That is the best option for me for this type of issue.

I have the same problem with a VPCSB - cannot get it into Stamina mode. Have had it a year and have decided to live with it as I'm not sure that it was there from the start (the manual does not spell out the distinction between the two modes or how to change). Also, I searched the net about this and (I think - as they comments were not entirely clear) that there is some problem with this model and Windows 7.

In short, if mine was a new machine today, I would send it back.
