Crash when unlocking screen / security setting

This happened ~1 day ago, when I try to unlock the screen (pattern lock), the deivce black out for 1 second and return back to the lock screen. What I can only do is to use fingerprint to unlock and enter to home screen. I then tried to access lock screen setting to disable to screen lock, which required to unlock the pattern lock again, this times works but the setting manual is completely blank. I retried however “setting“ force closed.

I won't want to try to restart the phone because fingerprint will not work on the first time unlocking after restart/power off.

Devices info:Xperia XZ2, Android 9, no new app instead for 3 months, updated Google app however uninstalled doesn't chqnge anything.

Thanks.

Hi @LouisLo, sorry to hear about this.

Have you tried clearing the data for the settings app? This will reset the app completely which might do the trick. Find and tap Settings > Apps & notifications > Show all XX apps > Tap the menu icon in the top right corner (three vertical dots) > Tap "Show system" > find and tap Settings > Tap Storage > Tap Clear data > Tap "OK". After this, try unlocking the phone with the pattern lock again.

Try this and let me know how it goes!

Actually I've found two "setting" in the page and cleared both data but doesn't work.

Is there anyway other way I can disable the pattern lock using something like adb command?

Thanks.

Hi again @LouisLo and thank you for the quick reply!

In that case, I believe that the best thing to do is to repair the software on the phone using Xperia Companion and a computer. Do note though that the software repair will also erase all user data, so it is advised to do a backup before the repair to avoid data loss.

Feel free to keep me posted with the results!

May be I will do that as last resort, I am currently waiting for the Android 10 update and hope this help.

Anyway thanks.

I understand your point, @LouisLo. However, in this case I believe that it is better to do a software repair, partly due to the fact that a software update do not affect set screen locks in general, but also due to the fact that we do not know which models will be updated to Android 10 nor when the update will arrive.

You are however free to do as you please. Let me know if you have any further questions, otherwise have a wonderful day!

I started having this same problem yesterday. I, too, am afraid to reboot. I'm also afraid that it will eventually lock me out because usually the phone forces me to unlock the phone with the pattern code instead of the fingerprint for security purposes, but if that is currently failing I will be stuck! I have only had this phone for less than 6 months.
