Fast charging not fast at all on xperia xz3

Hi, 

I just bought a new xperia xz3 but the charging time is sometimes fast (2,5h) but sometimes really long (5,5h).

Does someone know what could be the problem? 

I also tried an old charger from my old xz1 but issue is still here.

Hi @Ludo3, let me see if I can help out here! 

Which kind of quick charger are you using? The reason as to why I am asking is that the XZ3 uses new kind of quick charging protocol called USB-C PD (Power Delivery). The old quick charger (UCH12) might therefor not work as the phone needs a charger with support for PD (UCH32).

If you are using a PD-charger, try rebooting the phone in safe mode to see if the charging works better while the downloaded apps are deactivated.

Hi Martin and thank you for this first answer. 

As previously mentioned, I am currently using the old xz1 charger which is effectively a uch12 series. Sometimes it charges quickly, sometimes not.

I don't have currently the xz3 original charger with me, I will check tomorrow evening, but if I remember well, it was also a uch12 series. 

Could it be possible that sony sells its phones without the right charger for a quick charging?

I am afraid that since this is a global support forum I cannot say whether the charger included in the box at purchase is a quick charger or a regular charger as the box content varies a bit depending on market. Here in the nordics where I am situated, the XZ3 came with a regular charger (UCH20) included in the box.

I just checked the original charger and it's a uch10. Does it mean that android does not take it into account for fast charging?

In that case you might need to switch the charger to a UCH32 in order to enable quick charging. This due to the fact that UCH10 is not compatible with USB-C PD.

Hi Martin and thank you for your help. I will see if I buy this new charger or not. I also mailed sony help desk to better understand what is the issue, because I still have sometimes fast charge (around 2h), and sometimes really long ones (up to 7h). They recommand me to reboot, or initialize phone as usual. I will try it in the next weeks.

Hi Martin, hi everybody. 

I would like to share my experience because I finally found the answer to my charging issue. Problem was coming from the usb cable delivered with the phone. When using my old cable (only cable, no issue with the charger itself), charging time is now always around 2h for a full charge. I suppose that electrical contacts were not good.
