No sound when recording after update

Hi since 2 days I have no sound anymore when recording a video but I can call and the other hears me fine

Through WhatsApp I can't say anything anymore because then I don't hear anything anymore

Before there was a new software update everything worked fine but now I have these problems - GT

Hi @Marcello92, sorry to hear about this.

I have translated your question to English as this is an International forum, please post any replies in English and it will be easier for me and other users to assist you.

The Xperia XZ3 has two different microphones, one located at the bottom of the frame and one located at the top of the frame, to find out the exact location of the microphones, see point 4 and 12 in this overview. The first thing that i would advise is to make sure that the secondary microphone which is the one used for video recordings and video calls is not blocked by a case or any kind of dirt or grime.

Also, have you been able to carry out a quick test of the speakers in order to see if the hardware is working as intended? In order to do this, find and tap Settings > Support > Xperia Tests > Microphone and speakers.

Another thing that you can try is to reboot your phone in safe mode in order to see if the secondary microphone works better there. All apps downloaded from Play Store is temporarily deactivated while in safe mode and by doing this, you can see if this behaviour is caused by a downloaded app. For more information on safe mode and how to use it, click here.

If none of these measures manages to improve the functionality of the secondary microphone, I suggest that you try to  repair the software on the phone using a computer and Xperia Companion. Keep in mind that a software repair will erase all user data from the phone, so it is advised to do a backup of your user data before proceeding with the repair.

Try these measures and let me know how it goes!

My microphone could not detect the sound it was playing in Xperia test. There is sometimes no sound when recording a video and the sound in camera app is turned on. What's going on???

Hi @GME_IS300t, sorry to hear about this.

The failed test is an indication that one of the microphones is not working as intended. As suggested in my previous post in the thread, I would suggest that you try to  repair the software on the phone using a computer and Xperia Companion. Keep in mind that a software repair will erase all user data from the phone, so it is advised to do a backup of your user data before proceeding with the repair.

If the software repair do not manage to improve the functionality of the microphones, I believe that the best thing to do is to have the phone physically examined and repaired. In that case, please get in contact with your local support team, they should be able to arrange for the phone to be sent to an authorized service center as well as answer questions regarding local warranty and consumer laws.

I hope that helped!

I have the same problem since updating my XZ3 in Feb 2020 to v 52.1.A.0.532.

The Sound Recorder App (Enregistreur Vocale) no longer records when I hear perfectly on the speaker and when I phone people, they can't hear me !

What with of software upgrade is this ?

I thought that Sony were a sound, reliable company !

What plans are there to fix this 'upgrade' ?
