Quick questions, quick replies; ask anything about the Xperia XZ1!

Hello everyone!

We tried out a new concept where we mainly let our community assist each other with product/feature questions in the Xperia XZ Premium board and it was a success! So, let's keep it rolling. Slightly_smiling_Face

The purpose of this thread is to ask anything that you wish to know about the Xperia XZ1; other users owning an Xperia XZ1 and forum staff will do our best to reply!

As an example, prior to purchasing an Xperia XZ1, you may be wondering if someone has tried out a specific third party app or feature on their XZ1, and could tell you a bit more about the compatibility and functionality as the app may important in your daily life. Staff and other users can come in and reply and let you know how it works!

The goal of this thread is to help each other out as a community. We will try to moderate this thread so that any new threads with a fitting question will instead be moved here, while we of course keep support threads the way they are now.

NOTE:
Support related questions, such as raising concerns and troubleshooting are best suited in a different thread/their own thread. Please try to see if there is a thread regarding your concern, and if not, feel free to create one! smile happy

I'm also curious about the T-Mobile wifi calling and VoLTE stuff, especially if it's available in non-US fingerprint sensor enabled firmware versions.

i have had confirm my Xperia XZ1 will be delivered tomorrow...

what is the best way to transfer from a Z5 to the XZ1 settings etc?

(moving from the X10 to S was fine, but S to Z1  and Z1 to Z5 were messy half done things via the Sony PC software...  has it improved?)

@ezy when you boot your new phone, there should be an option to import your setup using Xperia Transfer app. it should be preinstalled on both Z5 and XZ1. you can also go to Settings > Accounts & sync in order to make sure that the accounts you've logged in are being synced, so that the new phone will be able to downloaded some data in case it's not transferable via Xperia Transfer.

phone is charging as per instructions before turning it on....

adding the imei to sony support it came up "other"   bit too quick for them then!

i booted up... it asked if i was moving from another phone. i said yes. it then paired up with the z5 via nfc and virtually nothing has moved across (the screen theme did, so now i have "gold" from my old phone and not whatever was the new default on a silver xz1)...   some of the phone log has but zero contact numbers.

accounts... only google moved...  xperia i think was set up after the wizzard ended so the list of accounts =2 when the previous phone had 11+

no email moved nothing

vodafone keep sending a text saying it seems i have changed my phone, it can't handle automatic update of mms/internet settings and sends me off to a manual page.

now what do i do, as i have another 5% actually transferred mess.

running transfer wizzrd again from the assistant, and with a pin not nfc

it has found 48 apps, and 2gb ?  started transfer andit will take over an hour?

i know this is going to end as badly as the transfer to z1 and z5 did.

@ezy have you added the same Google account that you used on Z5? if yes, then the phone should pull the missing info from there. you can go to Settings > Accounts & sync > Google if syncing data is enabled on both devices.

yeah same google account.

it's got another 40 minutes to go and then i will see if it's pulled stuff across (i stopped, removed spotify and restarted just in case that was causing the huge data move but it wasnt...)

also, do i have to see the sd card in my notification tray with the option to explore it every time i boot the phone up?  is that a "feature" on 8.0 or sony's o/s....  while i guess the network name is no longer displayed even as an option?

@ezy I'm pretty sure that if you dismiss it, it shouldn't come back. or maybe tapping it once to explore the SD card will make it go away permanently? I can't really remember, as it's been quite a long time since I've seen it myself, even after rebooting my phone. as far as I can tell, it's not meant to appear after every reboot, only if you insert a new card.

edit: I just remembered that you're on Android 8.0, I'm not sure how the SD card notification works there, sorry

by the way, you can try forcing synchronization by going to Settings > Accounts & sync > Google > three dots in the top right corner > Sync now. you can also check if your contacts are actually synced with Google by going to https://contacts.google.com and logging in.

this is awful

the transfer completed.

still the only "contacts" in the contacts app are xperia care ie & xperia care uk   - no other phone names or numbers.

ive no idea what "transfer" is meant to have done other than waste 2 hours of my day just as it did 2 years ago and 2 years before that.

google account sync was turned off.   i've clicked that to on, the contacts appeared...  and ive forced a sync...

this really is not plug and play.
