2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

 

 

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. 2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

 

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. 4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

 

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

(Not wills_b but...) Bought ours mid august and took it back Friday (2 days ago). Since it was bought before Sony announced that you couldn't have both YouView and HDD recording, I did what others before me have done and emailed PCW customer support directly to say something like:

 

At the time of purchase the TV was sold/advertised as being able to do both YV and HDD (when the updates arrived). Since the YouView update arrived it had become apparent it could do one or the other, but not both, and so the TV was not as advertised and under SOG 1979 I wanted to return the TV for a full refund. 

It took about 48hours after sending the initial email, and had to supply some additional details (branch number, invoice number etc) before PCW gave me a reference number authorising the return of the TV. There was a little bit of extra faffing in store as they had to ring whoever authorised it to send them something for their system, but it was reasonably straightforward. 

 

The chap in store who did the refund read the internal notes attached to the reference number essentially confimed that PCW had carried out checks and had accepted my claim about dates and advertised features as being correct.

I guess if you are genuinely returning the TV based on advertised vs delivered features (assuming you bought it before it all changed), it should be hard for PCW to say no to a return?

@royabrown I referred to Sony having licencing issues not Youview. Reading various comments throughout this thread it is clear that no one really knows why a number of thing do not work as it is believed they should and the jury is out until proof is given as to whether there are hardware, software, or licencing issues.

@Kevwoods12 royabrown is exactly right about the last digit being colour of atand and stand post.

 

Just read quinnicus' reply. Not so sure now.

@Anonymous That's interesting. I checked the full specs on the Sony website before buying a month ago and the only difference between lat digits on the 85 series was stand and post colour.

 I bought mine in August and knew about the Motionflow differences then,  it's the reason I got the 8509, they were all the same price.

I just received an e-mail from Sony telling me to "Enhance my TV expeince" by susgesting a number of acessories. One of these accesories is the Sony BR200 Skype Camera.

 

Astonishing recommendation given that the only TV I have registered with them is a Sony Bravia "Smart" Android TV, which is not compatible with Skype. Do their various departments even understand what their Android TVs are capable of (or not)?

 

I had already bought the expensive Sony BR200 camera with the TV and had to return it. Should have returned the TV as well!

 

I think this is false advertising! How can I belive that any of their other recommended accesories is compatible?

So if the 85 series do have the same Motionflow abilities, it's another example of false advertising imo.

How can you say the say is good are you being sarcastic? You seem to list some fundamental faults  Sent from my Samsung device
