I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

I am not happy as my signature says, because thats how I feel about the last FW update as my signature has that on it, plus I am not happy as the TV without this new FW is to be quite frank, a right royal pain.
I have not had time to look at the new FW yet as its only just come out, if this solves ALL my issues then it will be replaced with "A Happy Customer" and I shall be happy as I have wasted a lot of time on this TV and the problems will be solved.
I hope this does solve all the issues as its about time!
Dont know why you said that really, it looks pretty obvious to me.
Nevermind 🙂
Because you didnt state that this was a signature, I just thought its the rants of a mad man.

Keep up Darren, surely you can see from the 500 plus pages of comments here that these tv's are enough to drive anyone mad. Lets hope this fw update finally provides and sorts out what it should have done in summer last year.

I have been having the same problems as many of you on here. I have just checked for an update this morning and its currently downloading one.
Looks like they are pushing it out today to the UK.
Cheers

Hi Gary,
Any news on the download? Update?
The x93 is not that bad, it get slow downs but that is resolved by a restart via the menu,
I believe that many of your issues could be resolved by a firmware optimisation.
It downloaded and updated fine. No problems there.
Seems faster at moving around in the menus.
As of yet I havent hit any of the problems I was having (black screens, screen hanging etc). I havent played too much with it so will see how it goes.

Can you also explain why the tech department are quick to interject with a statement like this, when you could interject at any other post, like refund policy, which clearly is something people need guidance/ reassurance from. There are clearly some very unhappy customers, what are you doing about that?
Hi @paulconvey
Can you also explain why you think that an ordinary user of this forum is from the Sony tech department?
He would be rather startled to find out that he was,,,,
Darren you are probably correct about the mad man... mainly as its this TV that has caused me to go mad!
You could easily have looked at my other 172 posts to see that was my signature as I would have got rather bored writing the same thing at the bottom of all my posts...
Lol....
Downloaded and installed the new update on my KDL-43W805C. Used the USB method. Installation was slow but worked perfectly . Nice to now have the functunality promised.
I got this TV to replace a KDL-32EX723, which was working perfectly well but i really liked the idea of the Android TV. Now the 32EX723 had PIP/PAP and HDD Record and i have to say the PIP/PAP Implemntation on the older TV was alot better, easier to use, you could easily use the remote to move the screens around without having to go in to a menu .
Sony is more than capable of doing this stuff, but i think they have been sitting on their laurels for too long. Cmon Sony get back to how you used to be.
After weeks with the latest EU firmware I can verify that the issue with the remote is still present. The general behavior get slugish sometimes and there is still the issue of slow motion in Channel Setup. My KD43X8305C is naked, no hdmi connections or usb recording tested yet.
