I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.
I have fixed the issue by changing under sound settings on the tv to auto 1 from PCM. I had it on PCM before and it worked but changing it to has enabled it to work, cheers
@petsmart wrote:@Jimmyjamh thanks for the reply. I just tried captain America and still stereo. Nothing has changed in my physical setup. Can you confirm if you see the 5.1 audio detailed in the description as it used to be? I see HD logo on mine read that's it.
Yeah I did see the 5.1 symbol. Just see your other post @petsmart. Glad you managed to get it sorted. Is this so,etching which had changed since the last update?
@Jimmyjamh Yeah I think this is something that has changed from the recent update as I did not have this issues previously on pcm setting. It's. 55x8509c. Thanks.
Am I right in thinking that, after waiting about eight months for the recording feature, this finally available recording feature update will not allow live tv pausing or rewinding?
It seems that only a simulated 'Pause and Rewind live tv' can be done after pressing the Record button
- but you then have to go through the rigmarole of pressing several buttons and navigating the title list screen to set up a recording, even when you just want to record the live tv .
In similar fashion while watching a current recording, it cannot simply be stopped with the Stop button
- instead, in the Guide screen, you have to go to the hidden screen to the left of guide, and navigate again, or click on the programme which is currently recording, and navigate again, to be able to to stop it.
Strange that using the HDD has been all been made so difficult. Come on Sony, please tidy this up!
Ok thanks. That makes the feature useless to me. Also, I actually bought a wd av drive to use the feature. The recordings were slightly stuttery compared to live tv which again made it useless. Mind you I don't know if that was a fault in the tv or the drive.
In that case I wonder if it varies by tv model, mine is a 55X8509C. I was using FF, Pause and Stop from the remote yesterday evening on a current recording with no problem.
Can't comment on live tv functions, haven't tried but may play around with it later.

@alanxce yes I agree that the stop function seem to work fine with a recording made previously, when the display returns to the 'title list' (aka library).
Its just a palver to start or stop a recording of a programme which is live on the tv, say when it doesn't look promising after all and whether it has been scheduled or not, when even the title list does not allow it to be deleted until it has first been stopped, which can itself only be done by navigating to other screens.
Hi All,
Looks like this thread is getting longer and longer and not many solutions seem to be coming from Sony.
I bought my KDL 50W809C back last november. (I'm in Ireland) Since my inital set up i have been having a number of issues that have been highlighted here already (the list and thread has been closed and most issues are unresolved or unanswered). I'm having issues with the 3D disappearing on apps, channels moving, tv not responding to remote or working incorrectly. Tv rebooting when changing channels or apps, sat tv guide not updating etc. As i said none of these issues are new. I rang the Sony helpline and asked for more information but the "technician" was unaware of any of these issues and could only recomend that i do a complete reinstall of firmware. No other options were offered or more detail of issues requested. I read on this forum in the passed that a new build was due for March 2016, has anyone had an undate on this? or is it another effort to push the problems down the line. It obvious that this firmware was not ready when it was launched and the customer is doing the fault finding. In my view it is unacceptable that a large corporation like Sony can conduct it business like this. I not holding my breath while Sony resolve this disaster but i do believe that customer complaints need to be aired in a public forum to warn any future Sony customer of the terrible customer and technical support they offer.
Cheers
