HDMI Signal Format and Dynamic Range settings - KD-65X8509C

My TV is a KD-65X8509C, 2015 Android TV with the latest firmware (v3.473).

I'm trying to find descriptions of the two settings in HDMI setup, and also what the difference is between the two settings. One setting is listed under INPUTS, and the other is listed under DISPLAY.

  1. HDMI Signal Format, which says:
[Enhanced Format] displays High-Quality HDMI signals. Select this option only if your device supports High-Quality HDMI formats such as: 4K 60p 4:2:0 10bit, 4:4:4, 4:2:2 (HDR included)
  2. Dynamic range, which says:
Select the signal's dynamic range for HDMI input

The TV's help doesn't really give any explanation, and I'm trying to understand what the optimum settings are for my connected devices:

  • Sky Q Silver box operating in 2160p 10-bit mode
  • XBox One

Is there a description somewhere of exactly what these settings mean?

Hi there

The difference is:

  • External Inputs (Enhanced/standard) - Enhanced is specifically for 4K HDMI signals.  See HERE and HERE
  • Display Setting - Dynamic Range (Full/Limited) - This is for normal HDMI signals (non-4K).  See HERE.

Some 'light' reading which explains your next question (I did have another useful webpage - but cant find it in my bookmarks):

Hopefully this helps

Cheers
