Need help identify a defect in KD-65XE9305

Hi everyone!

Just got a new TV from a local store. Got home, installed everything aaand there we go: a grey spot on the panel close to the center of the screen, which clearly visible during brighter scenes. At first I thought it was just a dead pixel (or a few of them, which isn't great at all anyway), but after inspecting the area I realized that pixels are perfectly fine and change their state accordingly. Feels like there's something behind the panel and it drops a shadow do to backlight. Any ideas on what that could be? Doesn't look like a bug to me. Manufacturing defect (i.e. something got in there during assembly)? I know Sony has a policy on dead pixels, but this isn't the case here I suppose.

Any ideas are welcome.

Hi @fablehere and welcome to the Community

Thanks for providing photos.

If its straight out of the box I would get in touch with the store

quickly for an exchange

Thanks for your suggestion. That's exactly what I did and they said that unless it's a manufacturing defect, which can be confirmed by a Sony representative, they won't do a thing about it.

Says who? You should have 14 days of right of withdrawal in UK, like in the rest of EU (I know.. But UK is still EU for at least another year). No question asked. If it is out of the box you can bring it back just because the colour doesn't fit with your curtains if you like.

It applies to the stuff purchased online, not locally from a store.

Hi @fablehere  Apologises if you have already done this, but I assume you have opened a formal support ticket with Sony? http://services.sony.co.uk/supportmvc/en/Contact/Email?cat=televisions-projectors-lcd-tvs-android-

Yeah I've opened a ticket. Still waiting for a response.

Sorry, I am not from UK. But from what I read here the time seems to be even higher for goods bought in a street shop: 30 days. It's for sure at least 14 days in Italy. Anyway, I'd check better with someone more knowable than me.

EU consumer law states that 14 day rule is allowed only for purchases made online. In all other cases you're at the mercy of that particular store.

Okay, just got an answer from a Sony representative and he said that it's well within specification. He also noted that this spot isn't visible, but it clearly is to the naked eye.

That's exactly how it went last time back in 2013, when I had issues with my previous 55 inch Sony TV.
