Updating Software

Hi i decided to start another thread for updating software as other was mainly related to a sound issue which cant be resolved without an update.

So that leaves me here, i have latest software provided by Sony, however my tv will not allow me to update via usb at all, tells me im already on the latest software version, which im not.

Does anyone know a way to force the tv to update from usb?

Hi @graygerman

I’m afraid that Sony are famous for this. They have three levels, 70-79, 80-89 and 90-99. Only the 90-99 have all the bells and whistles. Until recently they didn’t even include the A2DP Bluetooth profile with the 80-89 range for Bluetooth headphones.

It looks like only the 90-99 range has the sound mode setting. With Sony you have to pay a lot more money for TVs to get standard features on cheaper makes. For example my 55 inch top of the range Sony cost £2399. Obviously as an early adopter I paid more than others following me. It is the same for all electronics. The 65 inch equivalent is now £2899.

Hi @graygerman   What software version are you on and what version are you trying to update to? If the TV is recognising the USB and telling you it is up to date then there is nothing you can do. The only thing that can go wrong is the TV doesn’t recognise the USB. As you have found out, the latest UK version is v6.5954.

My TV is reporting that there is a new software update released Nov 2022,

the version number is

 6.6070 (11/2022)

The Sony Downloads page for my TV has not been updated with this information as I write this,

https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/televisions-projectors-oled-tvs-android-/xr-42a90k/downlo...

Click the link above and then enter your TV models number and see if the page has been updated with the new update or is still showing the older version 6.5954.

You can check to see if your TV is reporting an available update.

Settings> System> About> System Software Update.

Hi @daveyh64   It looks like Sony hasn’t updated any of the 2022 (K) support pages. This is annoying because it lists the changes in the new software. I’m updating mine as I type …

Edit: I’m now on v6.6070 which has added Gestures control to my Bravia Cam and Auto power mode when it detects nobody in the room after x minutes, default 5 minutes.

God im so stupid !!!!!!!

LMAO, my tv updated last week it is on 6.6070 and that IS the LATEST version!!!!

So Whhhhyyyyyy on earth when i rang the support team yesterday about the sound issue, and they asked me for the version of software which i read to them, did they insist that it was outdated and 6.5954 was the latest version of software????.

Of course i did not question this, i simply followed the email they sent me to update via usb and got angry and frustrated that my tv would not let me install 6.5954,  so i rang them back and they were quite abrupt and snotty with me, apparently they are ringing me today after 11, i plan to tear strips of them,   but looking at the numbering of the updates, Of Course 6070 is newer, thats common sense, And i feel stupid because they told me it was old software and 6.5954 was newer, how dumb am i!

At the end of it all they even got me to factory reset my tv and the problem still exists, so either Sony have missed out the sound mode function in newer models or no longer use it on newer models, maybe this is to force people to buy sounbar kits because i have to admit, with no added extras it sounds crap compared to others ive owned.
