As with my previous post any help greatly appreciated. Thank you
Q1: why is there a circle in the middle of the screen when I change some channels, a bit like when Youtube buffers?
Q2: bit more annoying this one. On my previous TV I had a HDMI running from my Sony UBPX700 4K player to my Sony HTX 8500 soundbar, and the soundbar via HMDI to the arc socket on the TV, and everything worked fine. I've now made the same connections to the new TV only to find I get a picture from the 4K player but no sound, despite connecting it up as the instruction manuals have told me to when using arc to arc ports. (The sound when watching TV plays through the soundbar fine by the way).
And my grumble is about how disappointed I am with the TV. Having had several Sony sets over the years, I've never had one that seems so convoluted and unnecessarily a pain to set up. Biggest gripe though is the loss of auto-screen ratio changing when watching digital TV. Although it works fine on the HD channels it does nothing on the SD ones, something that was always fine on my last model that was only 2 years old. Technology, eh!

My new Sony XR42A90K also has the circle buffer when changing channel, which I am surprised
at as I was hoping the XR chip would have meant that switching channels would have been slicker.
If you change channel by inputting a number on the remote press the confirm button on the remote
after entering the channel number you want. For example if you want to switch to BBC1 press 1 and
press the confirm button. This will make the TV switch over a couple of seconds quicker as the TV is no
longer waiting to see if you are going to press a second or third number.
My TV is just over a week old and I am getting to grips with it, my previous TV was a 3 year old Sony TV
and there are subtle differences that make me scratch my head.
For example I have two set top boxes connected to my AV receiver and then connected via eARC HDMI
to the TV. One of these boxes wakes up between 3am and 4am to update the EPG. With this new TV
when it does this it now switches on the AV receiver it never did with the older Sony TV.
Haven't changed anything on the AV or the set top box and the settings on the TV are the same as
with the older TV. I'm perplexed.
Another thing is the TV is set to switch off after one hour.
On the older TV it would switch off happily, this new TV switches off but when I power it on it will put up
a message 'to prevent screen burn in you should switch off using the power button on the remote'.
So I am now wondering is the TV off or has the screen just been dimmed.
Screen ratio can be set through Settings> Display & Sound> Screen.
To set the screen ratio the TV needs to be the input, not any of your HDMI inputs.
The screen ratio for HDMI inputs should be set from the HDMI devices own settings.
Set Wide Mode to Auto, this will make the 4:3 default become live.
Set 4:3 default to Normal.
I then go back to Wide Mode and change that to Full.
I have Display area set to +1.
Hi @MrBealzebub
I have never ever seen a circle in the middle of the screen while changing channels.
It appears to me that your Retailer has given you a duff TV. There is absolutely no reason why your previous setup should not work!
Just in case you are not aware, this is a community of customers trying to help other customers. We welcome all grumbles but the only people seeing them will be your fellow customers and not Sony. Note your TV is a 2021 model (J).
I can’t comment on the aspect ratio problem as I stopped using that 20 years ago. I personally cannot see why people want to distort the image. Especially on a LCD screen with no risk of image retention from black bars top and bottom or left and right. But that is just me in my old age.
Setting up my 2022 model (A95K) I found was just as easy as any other Sony TV I’ve had in the last 40 years plus. You may be better off with a basic Linux model if you are finding Google TV challenging.

Glad to know I wasn't imagining the buffering, and my screen ratio now changes like a dream. Many thanks for you help with this.
