I've had enough of this PlayMemories software. It's slow, always crashing. It takes forever to do ANYTHING, literally ANYTHING. It is painful. PlayMemories? More like PainfulMemories.
For me this is symbolic of the general decline of Sony's standards in ... well ... just about everything apart from the Playstation.
Today I switched to Google Photos. It's faster, SO MUCH FASTER. It doesn't crash.
I'll continue to use PainfulMemories if I need to use it for transferring from camera to PC. But, if I don't need this, I'll happily uninstall it forever.
Hello @musictechguy,
the saying "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth" probably describes it best - PlayMemories Home is free and if you found a better alternative - so be it.
I personally think Lightroom would be much better to transfer photos to your computer.
Yet it is not free.

well, actually you don't need it in most cases. The fastest way to transfer images/movies from your SD card to your PC is by using a cardreader and simply copy your files by means of any file manager (Explorer, whatsoever).
However, some cameras do store long videos into different files of e.g. 2 GB each (the AX53 does so with AVCHD files). If a movie consists of e.g. 2 files, one being 2 GB in size, the other file having 2 GB or less, you'll be running into problems when simply copying those files to your PC (audio interruptions, black frames, frames with content but no audio and vice versa). PlayMemories (resp. ImagingEdge, which is the new version) will combine those files into one single movie file on the fly while copying them to your PC.
Finally, just a personal note: I've never had any major problems with that software. You might try to reset PlayMemories by starting the "initialisation" tool (or whatsoever it is called in an English Windows version) which should be listed within Windows' start menu (or run "PMBInit.exe" in PlayMemories' programme folder).

P.S.: "big pile of ****-****"? You made my day
I'm inclined to agree with the sentiment...
I've attempted to install Playmemories home for my 32 bit windows 7 Home Premium SP1 computer. There is a specific 32 bit download link here which has the 'reccomendation' that it only works with 64 bit operating systems.
What is the point of having a 32 bit version which only works on 64 bit systems?
I want to try this software so that I can edit RAW images. I'm not a professional photographer so I don't want to spend a fortune on professional software. Does anyone know of any software that will allow me to edit the ARW images that I've taken on my Sony DSC-RX10M3?

Yes, Imaging Edge: http://support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/app/imagingedge/en/

Hi Nick,
Thanks for your input but that's the software about which I wrote and which doesn't work with 32 bit windows operating systems.

Hi @argyrg,
maybe I can locate the old "RAW Image Data Converter" (the previous program).
Alternatively you can get the - unfortunately not free - program "Affinity Photo" to process your RAW imaged.
Also there is "RAW Thereapee": https://www.heise.de/download/product/rawtherapee-44563/download

Thanks again Nic,
but none of the free stuff is 32 bit (Nor is the Affinity Photo)
Hello @argyrg,
then it is time to upgrade to a 64bit OS - since Win 10 there is no 32bit which is the reason why more and more programs don't get a 32bit version anymore or the 32 bit version doesn't get any updates anymore.

Editing RAW files takes a lot of processing power and memory, so such an old system will always struggle. If you really don't want to buy a new laptop I would suggest installing Linux instead of Windows 7. This is not an easy task of course, but I would say it's worth it. My 10 year old laptop came with Windows 7, which is now obsolete anyway. I have replaced it with MX Linux (it overwrites everything so back up your files) and have installed Darktable (free, open source) and can edit RAW files from my RX100. Mine is 64bit, but you can still get 32bit Linux. You will need 4Gb of RAM though.
