Hello @alanjponting,
I assume the headphones are not paired to any device via bluetooth and you have no 3.5mm audio cable connected.
Then the headphones will think you powered them on by mistake and will switch off after 5 minutes to conserve battery power.

I agree with Nic. But if you get this message during normal use, I'd suggest restarting the headset by pressing the NC and Power buttons at the same time while they're plugged into your PC/Laptop.
