PVR date has reverted to 01 January 2000

My PVR date has reverted to 01 Jan 2000, this had totally confused the player and the TV guide and recordings will not load. Any ideas how to fix this.

A model number for the PVR would be helpful.

Something along the lines of a power cycle/soft reset/factory reset may improve things; have you tried the first option here?

But I would not go any further for now, as you don’t want to do anything that might wipe your recordings.

Another thing you could check is that the PVR is still connected to the internet, if it has such a connection.

Without knowing what the PVR is, though, advice is hard to give.

The model is svr-hdt500. The recordings being lost would be a pain but if necessary to get the device working so be it.

Not sure what a power cycle is. If you mean a complete power  down then yes this has been tried.

A power cycle is powering it down, and then, maybe after a couple of minutes to let the electrons die, powering it up again.

Here’s your manual; I suggest you have a good read of it for any clues here:-

https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/4265/42650961M.pdf

which has absolutely no mention of time setting, either in Setup or in Troubleshooting, so I am assuming it gets this from the broadcast signal on the TV aerial.

A couple of things you could try are a channel rescan, which might kick the date/time back into life, and a hard disk repair. No idea why the latter might help, but it’s something to do 😛

There doesn’t seem to be any soft reset; but before a Factory reset, it seems you can copy your recordings to an external hard disc, and bring them back after the reset, if this option is all that is left to you.

Try disconnecting the aerial, scanning for channels, then connecting the aerial and scanning again, this effectively resets the tuner.

If that doesn't work, you probably need to do a full factory reset.

Hope this helps!
