Sony KD 43xh8096bu connect with Sony dav dz230

I just bought a new Sony kd 43xh8096bu.

Can anyone please advise how can I connect my surround sound Sony dav dz230 to the above. I tried connecting with HDMI but it doesn't pick up the sound.

Much appreciated.

I believe the only connection that would work for both would be the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Thanks for getting back. I tried that but it is still not working. I even bought the headphone to RCA - still no luck.

I’m not seeing where either of these devices accepts RCAs. Unless you have the minijack to three RCA females adaptor?

But that is for AV/Audio In on the TV, and you are looking for Audio Out on it.

So like @Joe_Dohn says, you need minijack TV Headphones Out to minijack DZ230 In.

As you are, presumably, using an HDMI cable to get video to the TV (and observing that the DZ230 predates, or at least doesn’t support, ARC), you do have the SCART input on the DZ230 free, though, and you should be able to get a SCART adaptor that will give you access to L and R Audio in, probably as female RCAs. (Which seems like it might work with your minijack to RCAs cable, but probably won’t, as the levels will likely be wrong).

What you could use, though, is an Optical to Analogue converter, on the optical out of the TV, and feed that into the SCART adapter; you might even be able to have the optical output varied by the volume control on the TV remote, depending on whether the TV supports that or not.

But honestly, might it not be time to just pension off this 14-year-old DVD setup, in favour of one of these:-

to better do justice to what your new TV is capable of?

I agree with everything @royabrown2 said, I was honestly kinda reluctant to recommend upgrading the system since most people don't like to hear an upgrade recommendation (especially when it's an audio system for some reason).

But the only interface they both have is 3.5mm which could only ever give you a 2.0 stereo signal, with Optical being better at 5.1, but then there's the adapter headache.

Hope this helps!

Yes, I’m not big on lightly or blindly suggesting replacing existing kit either, if it can be made to serve well enough. However, we have rehearsed the limitations of the DZ230 with this up to date TV, above.

And when I looked at the modern-day Sony equivalent of the DZ230, I thought it looked a pretty good price, cheaper than many Sony soundbars alone, and with a BluRay player to be a superset of what the existing DVD player can do, and with real 5.1, and with ARC, and even wireless rears…

I wouldn’t have recommended anything too expensive, or not Sony, or that didn’t give you everything the DZ230 could offer and more.

So it almost seemed criminal not to at least mention the possibility.

And so I mentioned it 😛
