Hi all,
I had before the AG9 tv connected to the Sky HD. I was able to just use the Sony remote to control the SkyHD box.
Then I've added the str-dh790 AV, using the earc port from. The tv to the AV, then out of the AV to the Sky box.
I now can't control the sky box with my Sony TV remote. I don't like having two remotes and would rather use the Sony one.
Any ideas if I can use the one Sony remote to control the sky box like before with this new setup?
Thanks in advance for the advice.
At a guess, you haven’t programmed the Sony remote to work the Sky box, so it was doing it over CEC (which Sony call Bravia Sync).
As you have now put the STR-DH790 between the two items, this breaks the CEC chain, though maybe the AV remote will now control the Sky box?
Why not put the Sky box back directly on the TV? With eARC out from the TV, that should still be able to pass the Sky audio, uncompromised and uncompressed, to the AV receiver.
Thanks for the reply. I did try to connect sky directly to TV, with the earc still in place to the Av. The Sony remote did work as before. However, I did lose the sound.
I can't control the sky with the AV remote.
Makes sense what you are saying about breaking the chain.
Not sure if it can be fixed. Is there a setting I would need to change to link the sky to the TV directly as suggested to get the sound back?
The only thing you'd need to adjust would be to set the TV output to Audio System instead of TV Speakers and make sure that Audio System Prioritization is turned on (which checks for an audio system and only enables TV speakers if one isn't detected, more or less).
Hi - thanks for the help on this. I have fixed it. I did the follwoing:
Settings
Watching TV
External Inputs
TV Box set up - check control with tv remote
then channel order set up
At this point it asked me to select Sky
That was it.
Prior to all this I had set up the earc and made the AV the prefered sound output.
