I have a KDL42w815b and have just upgraded the firmware to the latest version (March 2015.)
Since then I've noticed some wild variations in the bitrate I've been getting through the Netflix app. I'll be happily watching 1080 quality streaming then it will suddenly drop to 280. Over the bnext 20 seconds it returns to 1080. Happens 3 or 4 times in the 1/2 hour program I was watching.
I've noticed it with a couple of different programs. I have a wired connection and have no issues when watching via other device (PS4.)
Seems a bit of a coincidence that this happened just after the firmware upgrade?!

Solved:
Spoke to Netflix they 'sent a command' to my TV (maybe a clear cache type command.)
Signed out of Netflix - switched off tv at mains plug for 15 seconds - problem seems to have disappeared.
