Hi,
I have a sony bravia kdl-40w2000 model TV which I would like to connect with my home broadband Wi-Fi router. Can anyone please assist me to guide me through the step by step process to connect with Wi-Fi.
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards
Hi @sijojacob
As far as I can see, your 2007 TV does not have any network connectivity. No Ethernet and no WiFi. So it will not be possible to connect it to your broadband router.
Hi @LightFoot ,
Thank you for the response. Is there any other options available to make my tv smart? By adding chrome box or Amazon fire stick ?
Please advise.
Thank you
Hi @sijojacob
Yes, you have answered your own question. You can add a streaming stick or external device. Just make sure you buy the HD version and not the 4K version.
Your specifications say that you have 2 HDMI ports. Maybe better to get an external device just in case the HDMI ports don't provide enough juice.
What is it you actually want to achieve?
If you would like apps on your TV via WiFi, buy a Roku Express (£30) or, for futureproofing a Roku Express 4K (£40), with their huge range of apps, and plug that into one of your TV’s HDMI ports.
An Amazon Firestick would do a similar job, having likewise a wide range of apps, but these are about £10 more expensive for the same function, and have a much more cluttered interface; it’s purely my personal preference, but I prefer the Rokus.
Either will take full advantage of your Full HD screen (which I think the tuner in this set can’t, being SD only) which you won’t have seen before, unless you have a PVR or a BluRay player attached.
The 4K devices won’t give you 4K on your HD TV, of course, but they will perfectly well work with it, and if you ever get a 4K TV, you wouldn’t want your device not to make full use of it.
You will need a separate remote (supplied) with a Roku or Firestick, but you will be much happier with the current technology in these devices doing the heavy lifting, supported by their supplied power supply, asking your TV only to do the video and audio handling via HDMI that it is still well capable of, instead of trying to load the app handling onto a 2007 engine.
@LightFoot are you confusing possibly powering these devices via USB (which this TV hasn’t got) versus a separate power supply? They won’t stress the HDMI inputs any more than anything else.
Hello @royabrown2
Thank you very much for the detailed information. This is really helpful and am sure, I’ve got the answer am looking for. I will go for Roku Express 4k which will solve my problems.
Thank you. Much appreciated.
Kind regards
