Hi everyone!
If you have recently bought a new VGN-CS11 series notebook, I'd ask that you take a moment to read this post.
Since I unboxed the new notebook, I have been experiencing strange noises from the fan unit evey time it operates. Before, it used to be simply that every time the fan stopped working, it made a soft "growl" noise (probably due to some internal vibration) for a mere second or two. Recently, however, it has also begun to make a strange, barely audible "clicking sound" as the fan starts up and operates, accompanied by the "growl" at the end, like before. At first, I was led to believe that it was just the normal operating noise that the fan made (although quite annoying!), but due to these recent developments, I am more and more convinced that this is some problem or malfunction that perhaps, will only get worse with time.
Other CS11 users have already posted in the thread "Problem with fan!!" that they also experience this problem, and, from what I've been able to gather, it does not seem like an isolated problem... but this is what we need to confirm.
That is the purpose of this thread.
I would like to ask and encourage all CS11 users to post in this thread if they also experience the same "problem" with the fan (abnormal noises that are clearly distinguishable from normal operation) or anything fan-related, especially if you have experienced them since you bought the notebook and haven't done anything that could "provoke" them (like dropping the notebook or hitting it in some way, blocking the ventilation vents, etc...). This is to have a general scope that this is not an isolated problem that is only happening to a few, and that way, perhaps Sony will take an interest and take the necessary measures to correct this problem if this, in fact, turns out to be a generalised problem.
I have already created a new case with e-Support regarding this issue. Note that these are brand new laptops that have been out on sale for barely a month, and now would be a good time to correct any problems that may arise. If this turns out to be a common problem for most CS11 users, then we should all contact Vaio-Link or e-Support and report the problem, so that Sony will take this problem into consideration if enough people have it.
Remember: the sooner, the better!
Also, perhaps it would also be of interest that those CS11 users that DON'T experience this problem also post in this thread, to see how many DO and how many DON'T... it may be interesting to also know.

I think this problem will never be solved from SONY.
Afterall i have 4 year warranty but send my notebook to repair every 2 months is very boring...
Need do a class action against SONY.
They came to collect my laptop and after 5 days I had it back, fan replaced, no special noize anymore. Excellent service. As long as it remains quiet...

I'm afraid mt fan is going to break again...I've sent my laptopo when? in june? well now for the most of time it is ok but from two days sometimes when I open it it makes a err sound which stops after thae fan works for a while.Sony told me they put a new type of fan...who knows if this is true...I don't want to send it for the third time...even if I call them now I cannot say the pc is bad because it is not, but i'm afraid it will become.Shouldn't they change the laptop if one send it for repair for the third time?

I think you should expect a change of laptop after three repairs, but that is not what I have experienced. My Vaio have been sent in for repair three times and the fan still went on and off all the time and became very loud. The online store where I bought my Vaio asked Sony to get my money back but Sony refused and said that all they could offer was another repair... It seems to me that if you have bought a Vaio you are stuck with it - no matter if it works properly or not.
I'm still waiting to get my Vaio back from the fourth repair. I will let you know how it goes.

The first time i sent the pc it returned still with a noisy fan, the second time it returned quiet I was so happy! they said they put a new fan model,so I was very happy.it was so quiet.Now it is still quiet but I hear the strange sound again even if it is very low...but i'm afraid it is going to break again and return as it was in origin...because until 4 days ago there wasn't this sound.I cannot send it now but even if I send it they would tell it is ok...I had to fight to let them hear how noisy was the previous because they just opened the pc without put the cpu under stress...when they did as I said they agreed to change the fan...they told it was a new model..was it a lie?yeah plese let me know about your pc when it comes back!

Houhai, what are you going to do? are you gonna send your pc again? i'm afraid they will change my fan with the old fan model if i send it...the one i have now makes a grr for half an hour but then it stops...I don't wanna have again the pig noise problem i had when i bought it...ahh i don't know what to do...

I got my Vaio back yesterday for the fourth time, but nothing has changed. The fan still goes on and of every 10th seconds and when it stays on a little longer, it goes wii, wii, wii.
I called Dustin Home where I bought my Vaio and told them about it, so they are going to decide what to do now. I will get a mail from them in a few days - I really hope that I can get another laptop or something like that.

I read back in the thread that sony told you that they had an improved fan and so on.So when you sent it for the fourth time it had a "improved fan"...like mine... but it stood quiet only two months.I'm afraid that if i send mine again it returns even worse...in any case my fan is getting worse every day...ah...how sad.Was it a lie, i mean the improved fan thing?
