Hi everyone!
If you have recently bought a new VGN-CS11 series notebook, I'd ask that you take a moment to read this post.
Since I unboxed the new notebook, I have been experiencing strange noises from the fan unit evey time it operates. Before, it used to be simply that every time the fan stopped working, it made a soft "growl" noise (probably due to some internal vibration) for a mere second or two. Recently, however, it has also begun to make a strange, barely audible "clicking sound" as the fan starts up and operates, accompanied by the "growl" at the end, like before. At first, I was led to believe that it was just the normal operating noise that the fan made (although quite annoying!), but due to these recent developments, I am more and more convinced that this is some problem or malfunction that perhaps, will only get worse with time.
Other CS11 users have already posted in the thread "Problem with fan!!" that they also experience this problem, and, from what I've been able to gather, it does not seem like an isolated problem... but this is what we need to confirm.
That is the purpose of this thread.
I would like to ask and encourage all CS11 users to post in this thread if they also experience the same "problem" with the fan (abnormal noises that are clearly distinguishable from normal operation) or anything fan-related, especially if you have experienced them since you bought the notebook and haven't done anything that could "provoke" them (like dropping the notebook or hitting it in some way, blocking the ventilation vents, etc...). This is to have a general scope that this is not an isolated problem that is only happening to a few, and that way, perhaps Sony will take an interest and take the necessary measures to correct this problem if this, in fact, turns out to be a generalised problem.
I have already created a new case with e-Support regarding this issue. Note that these are brand new laptops that have been out on sale for barely a month, and now would be a good time to correct any problems that may arise. If this turns out to be a common problem for most CS11 users, then we should all contact Vaio-Link or e-Support and report the problem, so that Sony will take this problem into consideration if enough people have it.
Remember: the sooner, the better!
Also, perhaps it would also be of interest that those CS11 users that DON'T experience this problem also post in this thread, to see how many DO and how many DON'T... it may be interesting to also know.

I've just discovered the same exact problem, and I'm really disappointed. I bought my laptop online at the Sony e-store this past December and I've never had such a problem before.
I contacted their support service and I'm currently waiting for a response. (I'm from Italy, btw)

The third time my Vaio was sent in for repair I was told that this time they had an improved fan. But when I got it back they hadn't changed anything - they just wrote that they couldn't find anything wrong with it! When I called them again they said that they had put an improved fan in my Vaio from the beginning, that is, the first and second time... Obviously, everything can't be true. And if they put the socalled 'improved fan' in twice, they are in a way acknowledging that even the improved fan doesn't work properly! The fourth time they didn't replace the fan either - they just did some "repair" - that didn't help...
I really do understand why you are afraid to send in your Vaio again, Coral Pink. I can only say that my Vaio hasn't become worse after the repairs. But it hasn't become better either...

Sadly i have to join the club here ..
I just bought cs31s modell (28/7) from a lokal store here in sweden .
Just took me an half an hour at home ,to discover that fans was speeding up and down as hell like u others discribe ,even if it just stand on cool surface whith a web page open it goes up and down every 10-20 sec :
Call Sony Service day after ,and they came pick it up at home, about 7 workdays later it came back whith a NEW fan replace ...same prob tho 😞
Again a phone call to service tech and they were just talking about how normal it´s for a fan to go up/down.
-I explane that our other 2 laps at home dos NOT behave like this ,and those are way more cheeper ones ,and i know when laps should need more fan power ..and it´s not for 10 sec at time .
So back to UK for service second time ,7 work days later ..came back and they have clean the computer(like a new one sould bee full of dust, that disturbe cirkulations...dhu )
and they have test it whith no problems ...guess what ..SAME problem argghhh..
Now i dont know what to do ,soo angry and sad.
Tryin to find a software prog that can change the moment for fans to start idle up ,but
havent done it yet .

Houhai, what are you going to do? are you gonna send your pc again? i'm afraid they will change my fan with the old fan model if i send it...the one i have now makes a grr for half an hour but then it stops...I don't wanna have again the pig noise problem i had when i bought it...ahh i don't know what to do...
I recently started having problems with my fan. It's always been a bit on the loud side compared to my other laptops I've had. Today it started making a strange vrrritt noise. It only did this for moment then stopped. Spoke to the support guy on the chat who is sending off for repairs. I may add AGAIN...
I'm actually quite quite disappointed with sony, I had my laptop barely 3 months when my dvd drive stopped working. It was fixed sent to the wrong address and returned to the depot. They didn't tell me they had sent it back and I waited the whole day and no word. I ended having to call them ten times and bounced back and forth to different people. They eventually got it back to me and sent me a complimentary cleaning cloth for my troubles...
I can't believe the fan is now making funny noises. Good job it's within warranty but having said that it's a cause for concern if I've had to send back to repairs twice. I had my Samsung Laptop for two years with heavy use before the hard drive died on me thought Sony was a good brand but it seems all I've had is trouble. Might be worth getting extended warranty on it. Unless this is their cunning ploy...
Today i sent our CS-31 in for service ,3rd time in four weeks
Dont think they will fix fan problem this time either ,but iam not going to give this up ..I HATE U SONY !

Got my laptop back. All seems well at the moment so far it's pretty quiet though I have only had it on for about 20mins. As I am I writing this it did it's usual whir up but it seems the same starting and stopping every so often. No other unusual noises. I'm not sure but I assume it's fixed I spoke to the help centre and they said they changed the fan. Who knows time will tell. Unfortunately I am now forever going to watching out for the next thing that goes wrong with the laptop the only problem is I have a few months left on the warranty. I don't know if I should get the extended warranty... You guys have any ideas/opinions?
All I want is a laptop that works... I hope this is the end of the problems...
Oh and for my troubles I have yet another cleaning cloth... Gee thanks.

I'm gonna send my laptop again, not this week because i'll be out most of time, but the next or even later.in any case i'm gonna send it again and I'll let you know how things go.I have no hope though because I had an imprevd fan installed and it was silent and perfect for 2 months, but it broke again..so maybe the fan is ok but it needs to spin up and down less often...what do you think?
