Attention VGN-CS11 users and SONY!! Problem with FAN!

Hi everyone!

If you have recently bought a new VGN-CS11 series notebook, I'd ask that you take a moment to read this post.

Since I unboxed the new notebook, I have been experiencing strange noises from the fan unit evey time it operates. Before, it used to be simply that every time the fan stopped working, it made a soft "growl" noise (probably due to some internal vibration) for a mere second or two. Recently, however, it has also begun to make a strange, barely audible "clicking sound" as the fan starts up and operates, accompanied by the "growl" at the end, like before. At first, I was led to believe that it was just the normal operating noise that the fan made (although quite annoying!), but due to these recent developments, I am more and more convinced that this is some problem or malfunction that perhaps, will only get worse with time.

Other CS11 users have already posted in the thread "Problem with fan!!" that they also experience this problem, and, from what I've been able to gather, it does not seem like an isolated problem... but this is what we need to confirm.

That is the purpose of this thread.

I would like to ask and encourage all CS11 users to post in this thread if they also experience the same "problem" with the fan (abnormal noises that are clearly distinguishable from normal operation) or anything fan-related, especially if you have experienced them since you bought the notebook and haven't done anything that could "provoke" them (like dropping the notebook or hitting it in some way, blocking the ventilation vents, etc...). This is to have a general scope that this is not an isolated problem that is only happening to a few, and that way, perhaps Sony will take an interest and take the necessary measures to correct this problem if this, in fact, turns out to be a generalised problem.

I have already created a new case with e-Support regarding this issue. Note that these are brand new laptops that have been out on sale for barely a month, and now would be a good time to correct any problems that may arise. If this turns out to be a common problem for most CS11 users, then we should all contact Vaio-Link or e-Support and report the problem, so that Sony will take this problem into consideration if enough people have it.

Also, perhaps it would also be of interest that those CS11 users that DON'T experience this problem also post in this thread, to see how many DO and how many DON'T... it may be interesting to also know.

I'm gonna send my laptop again, not this week because i'll be out most of time, but the next or even later.in any case i'm gonna send it again and I'll let you know how things go.I have no hope though because I had an imprevd fan installed and it was silent and perfect for 2 months, but it broke again..so maybe the fan is ok but it needs to spin up and down less often...what do you think?


I think the problem can be the spinning up down every few seconds but also the quality of the fan maybe is too low for this kind of notebook.
So they just put inside a cheaper fan.

One solution can be (after warranty expired) to replace the fan with a good one.

I also experienced troubles with my CS11 cpu fan,sounded a bit strange to start with and now it has stopped working all together 😕

today i got my cs-31 back for 3rd time!!!...they did nothing about it this time either.
Fan spinning up/down like hell..tech report says "nothing problem found".

And they didnt fee me a charge that i could get, if they didnt found any thing wrong..it´s like they know it´s a problem whith this fans ,but they dont know how to fix it..but still they wont admit it !!

SO SONY TAKE UR RESPONSABILITY AND FIX A UPDATE FOR THIS !!!

Bought our VAIO 60 days ago ,and it has been at repair for 50 of them ...

I've sent my vaio on friday, this time it will go to Great Britain instead of germany...who knows what will happen ?I hope it doesn' t come back as it is.I hope they'll change the fan with the improved one and not the old one at least and that they don't erase my data since they do not relate with the fan.this is the third time...i'm fed up.Il'' let you know.

hi all...what a bad idea to send my vaio..i sent it on friday and today( tueasday) it hasn't arrived yet to colchester...the dhl woman said that colchester is not served by dhl but a local courrier...now i'm worried..my vaio always went to germany, why in englad this time..? is there anyone here who had the experience with the english centre? if it takes so long to arrive, how long will it take to come back?? I hope it is not losto or stolen...

Seems like Sony finally has the guts to acknowledge the fan disaster.

well...there's an announcement but...what do they do? they extend the warranty, SO...? do we have to send our pc endlessly until the warranty ends and then wait for it to become broken definitely? why don't they think to a concrete solution? by the way i'm still waiting for my vaio to come back...how long will it last this time?

2 year warranty is already what we have in EU...
I also bought 2 more year warranty from the shop where i bought my Vaio.

They should fix this problem instead of raise the warranty.
If they dont fix the problem after 2 year what people can do?

So i understood why SONY called me after i had back my notebook from repair center, they asked many question as: u happy for repair? you think this notebook is good? all question need value from 1 to 10. I gave a 1 to all i think.
And so the woman told me : Dont worry if problem will come back again you will have 1 more year warranty (at that time i didnt understand well what she mean but now i know what that maybe she already know about the warranty extend.

Yesterday my vaio came back, now it is ok, but...how long will it last? two months like last time and then broken again?
Houhei you said exactly what I meant: they should solve the proble once for all...here in europe we already have the 2 year warrany. Have we to send it over and over every two months untill the warranty expiration date? and after that?
In addition sending our laptops to sony every two months is very expensive for them, if they solve the problem there should be less sendings...no words.
