I have just bought a new Vaio and am trying to link it to my TV via HDMI.
It worked straight away, but the resolution seems fixed at 1184 x 666. There is an option to select the HDMI resolution to 720, 768 or 1080, but 768 and 1080 are greyed out.

Is this machine capable of outputting at 1920 x 1080 over HDMI?
Hi Daveb975 and welcome.
Have you updated the Graphics Driver (Intel) 8.15.10.1872 on the download page for your model here:
http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/info/info.aspx?l=en_GB&url=VAIO/Updates/EP00002...
You may find you need to update the driver from the Intel website to get the two most common HDMI resolutions of 1360 X 768 and 1920 X 1080. You shou;ld be able to get 720p and 1080i - I'm not sure if the Intel GMA 4500MHD is capable of 1080p - provided your TV supports these resolutions.
What TV do you have?
What quality if HDMI cable are you using - you may need a higher quality to use 1080i.
Thanks for the reply. I am using the latest drivers, and have managed to get the Vaio to output at 1920 x 1080.
The problem that I have now is that 1920 x 1080 appears to be too big for my TV, so I lose the edges of the picture.
There is an adjustment for this on the resolution properties, but that just takes the resolution down to 1776 x 1000, which is then a bit too small for the TV.
I think that this might be an overscan problem with my TV (a Samsung 7 series LED/LCD), but I cannot find any way of adjusting it on the TV.
