Crackaling sound and loss of sound on occasions

I have a sony vaio vgn nw20zf. I get a crackling sound from the speakers and the sound sometimes goes or sometimes just crackles..can anyone help to the cause of this problem or a fix

Hi mikhudd77,

Have you tried attaching headphones in order to rule out a defect with the internal speakers?

You could also try re-installing the audio driver.
