Dissappearing volume control

HI now on last leg to finding help sony laptop vgn-n38e volume control still not poping up when l/click speaker icon in taskbar i have checked all forums and followed info to no avail also donloaded (vista realtek update/ intel graphics/ and comp is kept updated. property/sound crd/ device man all say ok ??? any info to help resolve this problem would be great

hi thank to all who replyed to this problem it is better to get no help than get a lot of missleading information which would not be any help to anyone
i contacted sony and they could only sugest a re-factory install which i found easy being an (old) newbie
