Vaio - so disappointed
Purchased a new Vaio 2 weeks ago. Optical drive suddenly failed to read any CD's or DVD's. Sony Centre have said I need to arrange to have the Vaio returned to Sony to see what the problem is! No offer of replacement until its been sent back! Two weeks! Ridiculous!

Sorry to hear about your Vaio's problem.
Can you please just check one thing to see if there is a simple solution? Go to Device Manager and see if there is a yellow error icon against your CD/DVD-ROM drive. If yes, double-click on it and let us know if there is an Error Code.
Worth checking before you send it off for assessment!

No there is no error icon against the CD drive. According to the healthcheck the optical drive is operating properly...but obviously it isn't as it won't play anything

That's a pity - no quick fix then. Worth a try though.
