In case someone finds this thread but doesn't know how to do that: go to Settings > System > About phone, then tap Build number field seven times. Then go to Settings > System > Developer options > Bluetooth AVRCP Version and try changing it to 1.4 or 1.5, and reboot your device.

BMW does not support AVRCP version 1.6, changing to 1.5 on my Xperia XZ2 worked for me for my BMW G30. Now Spotify streaming works fine, also showing album covers. Thanks for the hint.

Hi,

I am trying to change the AVRP but there is no option to do this under Developer Option on my Z3 Compact! Is there another way? In Bluetooth settings the options under my car device does not have a Media Audio box to tick, but on my smart speaker device it does, is there a way to add the Media Audio box, or is that what changing the AVRP should do?

Thanks,

Peter

Hi, I have exactly the same problem with no media playing via BT on my BMW yet the phone connection works fine. This first occured following a Sony software update on my ZX1 compact about a year ago. At that time, I lost the ability to skip the tracks using the in-car controls and the track listings did not display on the car but at least I could still hear music and skip tracks using the phone. More recently, I get the message that there is 'no connection' to BT (even though the phone still works fine) and it simply won't play any music at all from the phone (even though the track appears to be advancing in Spotify). I have tried everything and now getting to the end of my patience with it. Sony told me to do a hard phone software update. Nothing (other than a load of lost photos, thank you). I have tried the trick with reverting to an old version of BT as per the threads above. No help at all. I have updated the BMW software. Still no joy. I have checked the settings in Spotify such as media sharing etc. All fine and still no connection. Its driving me insane as I have to take headphones to listen to music in the car now!!

It is definitely the Sony phone because other (non-Sony!) phones all connected perfectly to the car and play full audio with track listings.

If anyone could offer some new wisdom, I'd be most grateful for their insight. Clearly my best bet is to just ditch the Sony and get something decent!
