Hey every one, so my volume buttons and camera buttons randomly stop registering any input, this hadn't occurred at any specific time tho, so I am not sure why I happens.
Restarting my phone makes them work again until they randomly stop again.
This started happening after the oreo update
My buttons have done exactly the same on my Xperia Xz premium since oreo upgrade and it is very annoying. It works on initial start up but then does not work after that. Do not want to have to send my phone for repair if it is something simple.
Since it only started after the Oreo update it must be software related. Does it do the same thing in Safe Mode? If yes, then did you try a factory reset? If you decide to do the factory reset then use the Xperia Companion from your PC to do the reset. My understanding is that it notonly resets the phone to factory standards but it actually downloads and uses a completely fresh install of the latest os... in this case Oreo.
I have noticed something else, my buttons do work while my screen is turned off, but not then the screen is lit
I thought that, I was the only one who is having this problem. This Oreo update broke more things than it fixed. My bluetooth devices don't interact with my phone anymore, the phone app keeps crashing, along with a few others. The volume buttons don't work as you said before, but I have keep restarting the phone, when it decides to not work. I even reset my phone, and deleted everything it still doesn't fix the problems. My warranty was to expire on 8/8/2018, now it's telling me, 6/14/2018 or 14/6/2018. What's up with that Sony? Hopefully they put out patches quickly. Don't be like Apple, Sony. Do it properly then send it out.

Have you tested >>> safe mode as suggested by @StanleyKubrick ?
I'm having the exact same problem since Orio, but it's just the volume up button. All the other buttons are working fine, but rebooting doesn't necessarily make it work. I've systematically tried safe more, disabling apps, everything I can think of, and I can't find any causal link! Thinking of doing a factory reset from the PC to refresh it?
Hi,
I've now done a software repair and it didn't really help. Initially the volume up status didn't change, then started working, then stopped working again, then worked for three days, and now isn't working again.
The handset was working fine before the update and I had no problems with the volume up, down, or any other buttons on my phone, which I generally love. Having said that I had a similar problem with the headphone jack on my Z5 Premium after an update!
I need to know if this is software related as I'm disabled and rely heavily on my phone.
Could someone please get back to me?

@Barrywrobinsonhave you tried rebooting to safe mode to see if anything changes? safe mode temporarily disables third party so if the button works fine when you boot to it, then the issue is most likely caused by some app you've installed.
Hey guys! I actually found the solution for the issue my self.
I found out that it was an accessibility option which was messing stuff up, so go to setting -> Accessibility -> Disable switch access and TalkBack, and suddenly it all works again
