Ugly display colors.

I bought this phone today and when i got home and started to look some photos and videos in i noticed that the screen colors are waaay to saturated. Especially orange, they probably boosted orange to make skintones pop more but people look like oempaloepas. There are 3 different colorprofiles in the settings, ugly, uglier and ugliest. The bad screencolors are really a big dissapointment and if i cant change this i have to sell this phone, ita useless for me since i work a lot with video's and images and i need an accurate screen.

Any way to manually tone the colors?

No everything is set to default which was perfect until yesterday. It's as if something has stopped working wish I was able to screenshot the display I'm looking at.

@Freeheek

I'm sorry to hear that you're not happy with the colour profile and saturation.

Does this also show if you take a screenshot in the phone and then view that screenshot on a PC? If so, could you take a screenshot while the phone is displaying an image where the colour is not correct and send it to me along with the original image file and i'll forward this internally.

I tryed that and come to the conclusion that the screenshot looks fine on my pc screen so its the phone screen thats not looking right. My pc screens are calibrated accurate screens. Dropping the saturation with 10 to 2 0% will solve it so this is a minor change i guess.

Hope it gets fixed, i like the phone except the colorcallibration which is importend for me.

Wait mate.. As illustrator and photographer you are never going to like a triliminous display and you will end up yelling at an oled one, although you will love oled's blacks. Are not just K 100% but a full blown 100% of the quadricromia. An overprint!

I am not aware if you ever worked with the old glorious CRT made by LaCie, the ElectronBlue.. After mine died I had to switch to an AOC 32" LCD, no matter how many hours I spent to calibrate it with my mac and the digital eye.. it wasn't the old school CRT.

Long story short, if you are used to CMYK you are not going to like a triliminous display, it's not oversaturated like an oled but you may need an simple IPS to feel satisfied.

Hi!

Just bought the Xperia XZ, the color accuracy of the screen is pretty bad, it is way oversaturated. Crying_Face

The color is way off on all photos, videos, album arts, and even the whole Android UI.

I have already turned off all of the "image enhancement" functions (such as X-Reality for mobile, Super-vivid mode, etc.), and the color accuracy is still pretty bad.

Tinkering with the white balance settings for the screen did not help either.

The white balance of the camera is pretty good though, thanks to the help from the RGB-IR sensor. :smileysmileythumbsup:

What is the point of having good color accuracy on the camera, but the color accuracy of the display ruined it all?

As you can see from the review, the color deviations are large.

Color Deviation

I don't think the problem is caused by the panel, instead Sony may added some "enhacement" to the image on the software side.

Really hope Sony could implement sRGB mode for those who want accurate colors in their next firmware update.

Thanks!

Is there no RGB? I thought I saw one on a Z5C.

Edit: my bad . Gamma white balance

Thanks for your suggestions.

I did tried to adjust the white balance of the screen, but no matter how I tried, the color does not seem right.

BTW, speaking of the Z5 series, I compared my XZ to my friend's Z5 Premium.

While the color accuracy is not perfect, the color on the Z5 Premium is still more natural than my XZ.

I wonder is this issue starting from the X series?

I am using the Lenna photo as the sample image, you can view the original image on Wikipedia.

I opened this image on the XZ with Chrome, and made a screenshot for displaying on my PC monitor.

All of the image enhancement functions were turned off, screen white balance is in the default settings, and the brightness is set to 60% (auto brightness disabled) on the XZ.

Comparison

(If you have trouble viewing the embeded image on this forum, please click here.)

The XZ is on the left, with the calibrated monitor on the right. Both were set to identical brightness.

As you can see, Sony boosted the skin tone colors (red, orange, etc.).

The colors appear pinkish on the XZ, and I can also notice the loss of details.

Noticed the left side of the image? The whole verticle wooden bar appears to be solid yellow on the XZ, while the bar on my calibrated monitor has a lot of depths and details.

Even the color of the notification bar on the top appears to be off...

Please look into this issue.

Thank you!

The solution is under "Accessibility" - - - > "Color Correction" - - - > Turn it off.
