Warranty Questions - XZ2

I had purchased an XZ2 and had issues with it while in warranty - the USB port failed after 9 months and a gray vertical line went down the screen. I contacted support and got an RMA to send it in.. 

Unforeseen circumstances saw my phone held in an evidence locker for almodt a year (I was not the defendant, FYI) and I just got it back.

I talked to Sony and they want to charge me for the repair now.

I'd understand if they didn't do repairs for the phone anymore but if they have record that the issues occurred while the phone was in warranty, why not cover it?

"For defects in workmanship not caused by the user during the original warranty period" - that treads to me that the defect must be while under warranty - not the repair.

What gives? 😠

I'm sorry to hear that, but warranty varies country to country, was the USB connector caused by you/the user or was it a manufacturing defect? in other words, after they inspected your device, what was the findings?
