I find out something interesting. If you turn of mobile data connection or turn on flight mode GPS is much better. I tested it with GPS Test. Before turning flight mode on or mobile data connection off the accuracy was +-50 to 100 meters. After turning off mobile data connection or turning on flight mode the accuracy was +-5 meters and green good level. So Sony must do something to fix that.

@ibnrw, Is your Location set to High Accucary, and if so does it work better if it is set to Device Only?. Also under Location -  Scanning, try turning Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Scanning off to see if it works better.

Turning WiFi search off does nothing. In android 9 I can't choose "device only"

Sorry, I've kept mine on Oreo and I did not realise it had changed in Pie. Maybe that is why people are having problems.

You have probably done this already but if not you could try purging assistance data to see if that helps.

How to add agps ?

Go to APN settings.

Did someone else tried to modify the APN type in the settings ?

Something like "default,supl,a-gps,dun" instead of "default" only
Did PIE update cleared the APN parameters ?

I dont know why Sony not is adressing this issue! Gps is a basic function in a Phone these days. And there seem to me that there is alot of people that has experieced The same problem. And The problem seem to occurs after system update, resently?? I have, for instance, reset my Phone, restarted many times, and all that is suggested as help, on Sony website! After my reset of The Phone, 2month ago, it worked ok. But then came another system update, and The gps stoped working again. My version now is "47.2.A.10. 80" What is Sony responding?? Or does ayone there care??

Hello all,

Same problem here in a Xperia XA2. After upgrade to Android 9 Pie (50.2.A.0.379), it was not possible to get any satellite fix and GPS position was never established.
According to different apps, many satellites were visible (usually more than 20) but it was not possible to fix none of them.
Finally fixed the problem after 2 weeks trying everything I read helped other users, so I leave here the full list for reference.
Troubleshooting done after googling:
- Restart device
- Restart device in safe mode
- Clearing A-GPS data with GPS status & Toolbox app
- Turn on and off "Improve location accuracy"
- Turn off battery saver
- Turn off and on WiFi scanning.
- Purge assistance data on Service Menu
- Turn on airplane mode
Then I contacted Sony support who suggested:

- WiFi vs. SIM network/network settings
- SIM cards from different providers
- Manual vs. automatic choice of networks and preferred networks
- Network settings reset
- Factory reset
Still not solved. Contacted support again and statement was "try a Software Repair on Xperia Companion, if this is not solving the issue, it's a HW problem".
Honestly, after a Factory reset I didn't think nothing would help, but device was already wiped out, so it was worth a try.
And it worked. Satellites are getting fixed again and I have GPS positioning.
Please be aware the "Software repair" will erase all data in your mobile, but hopefully will fix GPS too 🙂

Hi Everyone,

I'm having the same issue on my xz1 compact. Symptoms:

Unableto use gps only (without precise location google service enabled)

If I activate precise localisation, magic it works.

I've tested wih multiple app an in multiple reboots, it clearly appears that its the google services that are trying to force us to activate precise location option.

Indeed, even with some apps like cycle droid, the phone get access to at least 27 satellites (impressive no ?) but is unable to locate me on a map. I turn on precise location in the option: everything works including normal gps. Disable it and whoups, unable to locate you.

So my guess is that this NOT a bug, it's a feature (what did you expect) which seems to force people to use precise location service from Google.

Its a shame that Sony seems to complies with such aggressive policies or at least are not checking and preventing this kind of bugs, it's so obvious as a bug that it seems almost intentionnal.

Well this is my experience, please Sony fix it or I will definitely go back to my old oppo find 7a with lineage os.
